Who was following Who?

In episode three we see Jessica looking back and then the camera zoom to Matt a moment later Jessica is behind him and Matt starts running so im confusos. Was Matt following Jessica or it was the other way around?

Matt was following Jessica at first, but Jessica busted him and she ducked into a store or around a corner, and turned the tables so that she was following him instead. The smirk on her face when Matt starts walking faster trying to get away from her is awesome!

At least a half of that scene makes no sense. If Matt knows that he's being followed, why the holy hell is he starting to jump on rooftops? He's not wearing the mask! He's job is to look as ordinary and inconspicious as possible, bore his follower out... It's not like this part of the game is new to him, so what the hell? Did he forget his brain or something?

If he *doesn't* know that he's being followed, then, well, why the holy hell is he starting to jump on rooftops? He has no reason to.

And also, HOW did he not hear Jessica's camera? At least he should have realized she took pictures.

I read that scene as...

Matt is following Jessica because he wants to get to the bottom of what's going on with her.

Jessica realizes that Matt is tailing her. She isn't sure how, but to lose the tail she legit flies (which is why Matt loses the sound of her footsteps he was focused on and gets very very confused).

Jessica then lands behind him to follow him because, as she told them Luke later, she thought maybe Matt was sent to spy on her.

Matt, having lost Jessica, decides to move up to a higher vantage point on the rooftops to see if that might help him pick up her trail again.

This confused Jessica. They are both now very confused by the other. LMAO

I did not realize she had flown until I rewatched it with my roommate, who remembered she could fly. Because they never ever show it.

Yeah, I wish they had shown her leaping some in Defenders.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I totally forgot about Jessica and her jumping. The show made it look like she hid and appeared just behing him
