Inspired by a comment I saw on Tumblr, and ignoring the fact that the X-Men technically don't exist in the MCU, Foggy is secretly a mutant.

He was never an X-Man or anything like that. Maybe he doesn't even know he has a power, as it's incredibly limited or so specific it never crops up. Maybe all animals love him. Maybe he makes plants healthier just by being around him. Maybe he can turn slightly invisible. Maybe his power is just an inability to be effected by other people's powers. Can be anything.

One summer, Foggy Nelson's voice dropped. He grew three inches, he developed painful crushes on both the weekday and weekend lifeguards (their names were Colin and Marguerite), and when he came back to school, he had more friends. Almost overnight, it seemed, people were more willing to hang out or share their gum or talk with him. Apparently puberty was all he needed for girls to say "yes" when he asked them out.

He was runner-up for prom king his senior year. It was bizarre.

He never found out that he was homo sapiens superior, with an almost-undetectable charismatic field.

A/N: Not that Foggy isn't a lovely person on his own, but he does seem really successful at charming people despite being an awkward nerd like the rest of us. :D

I was interested in doing something inspired by this, exploring the ethical implications of a power like this and how Foggy might react (guy freaked out about hearing heartbeats, can u imagine a reaction to directly affecting people's brains).

I just wanted to get ur okay before I went ahead with that. The fill presents a really interesting idea that I'd like to play with!

I'm not the writer but I'd just like to say that I reall hope you do this. It would be an awesome idea...

That's totally fine! Please, feel free to write whatever you like. All I ask is that Foggy stays his kind, gentle self who's nice to old ladies and narrates things to Matt and everything: his charismatic field only gives him a minor boost, like the police being slightly more willing to accept his bribes, rather than full-on mind control.

Basically, the answer to the question "Do Matt and Karen really like me?" is "yes" and still would have been "yes" even if he didn't have the mutant power.

Thank you! Don't expect anything for a while, at least until June (uni... cries...) but the idea just grabbed me and im really excited to do something with it.

And no anon I completely agree. I can understand where ur concerns might come from but I assure you Foggy's personality will remain completely his own, and people will continue to like him for who he is. (people don't love you just because ur charismatic, and you don't win legal cases on charm alone).
I'm mostly interested in Foggy's reaction, as a guy who strongly believes in the checks and balances of a legal process. Perhaps not really fully understanding his power and freaking out a bit. Especially him being at least somewhat aware of how psychology works and feeling at least somewhat conflicted about how some lawyers win cases based on Image management.

I also wanted to explore how this power would have affected Foggy's socialisation. Like noticing what draws people to him and perfecting the art of modifying behaviour for certain people. Acting as mediator for people (which leads him towards Law perhaps?)
Like any mutant his power is an integral part of himself and his identity (even if he wasn't aware of it).

Original OP here: Wow! I wasn't expecting any sort of response, never mind a fill! This is brilliant, and of course I would love to see more, university dependent (I feel your pain...). Also I can totally see Foggy being entirely freaked out by the idea that he's *made* people like him, however not true it is.

In conclusion: thank you for this! =)
