Re: Matt/Foggy - Ticklish

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
(AN: I'm sorry, this came out kind of gen rather than Matt/Foggy. I hope it works anyway.)

It’s a slow day at the office. Matt is late but this time Foggy doesn’t have to worry about what that means, and he doesn’t have to lie to Karen either. Matt had the basic human decency to call him this morning and let him know not only that he survived another night, but he was going to be late to work for surprisingly normal reasons.

“You’re cat-sitting?”

“Yeah,” Matt said. “My neighbor is visiting family out of town, so I need to stop by her place to feed her cat.”

“Is this a hot neighbor, at least?”

“She’s sixty four, Foggy.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

So Matt’s not here yet and there is nothing to do but soul-crushingly boring paperwork. He almost wonders if Matt was lying about the cat just to get out of this.

Foggy is sharing Karen’s desk right now because it’s depressing to do this kind of work in a stuffy room by yourself. He hears Karen riffling through her desk, but he forces himself to keep his eyes on the papers instead of looking at what she’s doing. He needs to focus.

A second later, she says, “Hey, Foggy.”

He looks up. She’s got a piece of scotch tape pulling the tip of her nose up, her eyes are crossed and her tongue is hanging out the side of her mouth. It’s stupid and juvenile and Foggy laughs harder than he has all week. Karen bursts into laughter with him.

“Wow,” he says as he’s catching his breath, “you should have told us before we hired you that you were twelve years old. There are child labor laws, you know. We could get in serious trouble.”

“Oh, like you’re Mr. Maturity.”

“That’s Dr. Maturity, thank you. I have a PhD in maturity.”

“More like a BS.”

Foggy actually snorts laughing at that. He expects Karen to tease him for it, but she’s too busy having a fit of giggles over her own joke. Her laugh is one of the most ridiculously endearing laughs he’s ever heard. Probably second only to Matt’s. Which reminds him--

“Hey,” he says, perking up like a cartoon character with a lightbulb over his head, “you’ve never heard Matt laugh, have you?”

“Sure I have.”

“No, no.” Foggy shakes his head. “I’m not talking about that smug little chuckle he does. I mean a real laugh. Like the bust a gut, rolling on the floor kind of laugh.”

She raises her eyebrows. “I didn’t really think he was capable of that.”

“Yeah, you just have to get him drunk.” Foggy grins at the memory of the first time Matt really lost it in front of him. The two of them were out drinking and Foggy told some incredibly stupid joke that he doesn’t even remember anymore, but Matt laughed so hard he fell off the bar stool. He really wishes he could remember that joke, if only as a memento of that night. “Oh. Or you can tickle him.”

“What? No way! He’s ticklish?”

Foggy nods proudly. “Oh yeah. Like you wouldn’t believe.”

That has been his favorite fact about Matt since he accidentally discovered it one late night when they were studying for an exam. You just don’t expect a cool, collected guy like him to be ticklish.

But it occurs to Foggy suddenly that it might be because of Matt’s enhanced senses. If his sense of touch is hypersensitive, it sort of makes sense that he might be hyper ticklish.

And if it’s related to Matt’s secret abilities, should he even have told Karen? Will that somehow lead her to make the connection? Probably not but just in case, he’ll warn Matt not to get into any tickle fights as Daredevil.

“I have to see that,” Karen says, pealing the tape off her nose.

Foggy hears the distinctive tapping of Matt’s cane in the hallway, and he waggles his eyebrows at Karen. “Maybe you will.”

They pretend to immerse themselves in their work as Matt enters. “Hey,” he says. “Sorry I’m late.”

Karen smiles. “Hey, Matt.”

“Hey, buddy,” Foggy greets him. “Can you come take a look at this?”

“Well, no,” Matt says, and there’s a touch of wariness to his voice. Maybe he can tell Foggy’s up to something by his heartbeat. But even so he comes to Foggy’s side. “What is it?”

“Well,” Foggy says, rubbing his chin with one hand and keeping his eyes on the papers, “the main thing is--”

Foggy darts his hand to Matt’s side, giving a brief tickle.

Matt jerks violently away from the touch, a helpless giggle escaping his mouth before he manages to slap his hand over it.

“Oh my god,” Karen gasps, her eyes shining. “That’s--That’s adorable. Matt, you’re the Pillsbury Doughboy.”

Matt’s face is growing redder by the second and it’s hard to tell with the glasses, but he’s probably glaring daggers at Foggy. He’s shifted his grip on the cane, like he intends to hit him with it. He says, “Don’t.”

Foggy feints at Matt’s left side and Matt blocks with his cane, but then Foggy’s already on his feet with his other hand on Matt’s neck, wiggling his fingers like it was the neck of a banjo.

Matt doubles over with laughter, cringing away from Foggy’s touch, though little good it does him. Foggy dives both hands under his suit jacket.

“Foggy!” Matt yelps, squirming and trying to back out of Foggy’s reach, but his back quickly meets a wall. “No. F--Foggy! No!”

Matt hits him weakly with his cane a few times, but his own laughter overpowers him and it slips from his fingers, clattering to the floor.

Matt folds his arms across his stomach but Foggy just switches back to tickling his neck. Matt’s glasses are askew. His eyes are watering. Foggy should probably stop. But...he kind of doesn’t want to. He had forgotten how fun this is. He had almost forgotten how much he loves Matt’s laugh. How contagious it is.

“Guys,” Karen says.

Matt drops to his knees and Foggy follows, working his fingers along Matt’s neck.

“Guys!”

“Huh?” Foggy asks, looking up. There’s some stranger standing in the open doorway. A middle aged man looking at them all like they’re crazy. Foggy releases Matt, but Matt’s laughter continues weakly for a long moment, before tapering off into heaving breaths.

“Um, hi,” Foggy says, standing and hastily straightening his tie. “I’m--”

The would-be client turns and leaves, letting the door slam shut behind him. Karen slaps her palm to her forehead.

“That--” Matt gasps, catching his breath. “That was a client, wasn’t it?”

“...Maybe,” Foggy says. “Or maybe it was a Jehovah’s Witness. Took one look at us knew we weren’t worth converting.”

Matt sighs, picking up his cane and extending a hand to Foggy. He looks kind of exhausted, his hair all mussed and a sheen of sweat on his face. “Help me up, asshole.”

Foggy does, only for Matt to swat him in the arm with his cane. “Ow!”

Matt smiles, straightening his glasses. “We’re going after him. See if we can’t change his mind.”

“We?” he says, rubbing the mildly sore spot on his arm. “After you just maimed me?”

“Whatever,” he says, pulling Foggy along by his elbow. “It’s not like I’m leaving you and Karen alone again. I’d probably come back to find you putting tacks on my chair.”

“Tacks? Please. It would have been a whoopee cushion.”

This is so sweet and funny and in character. I love how much team-centered gen this fandom is producing. It really feels like an extension of the lighter parts of the show.
