okay so we've had Foggy signing and mute Foggy prompts. But I'd love some straight up deaf Foggy.

Becomes deaf through some kind of accident or an AU where he's born that way I don't care. I just want him and Matt bonding over both being disabled.

Gen or Matt/Foggy either is good.

+10: for Foggy being Deaf and proud
+100: for him getting involved in disability rights and disability activism.

the communication problems though...

OP: there are variations of ALS that are designed specifically to be understood by blind people. Plus most deaf people can talk using there voices just prefer not to. I think it would definitely take some adjusting but they could totally make it work.

and Matt could probably sense a lot of the larger motions. of course, that's not something he can exactly tell Foggy, so...

just imagine how they ended up roommates. some college administrator looked at their files and was like, ah yes, I shall put the deaf kid and the blind kid together. they'll get along great!

I just imagine the awkwardness of the first meeting with Matt coming in and 'Hi is this room 312?' but Foggy's too distracted by his Laptop and doesn't see him.

disabled OP: I think this is exactly what university administration would do and I totally want that story now.

I can imagine they might resent the situation enough that they would try not to be friends at first. They'd be all "Pfft, just because we're disabled doesn't mean we're going to be BFFs, geez. Oh wait, he's awesome. Fuck, we're gonna be BFFs."

My first thought that it's hard to imagine Foggy resenting anybody but then deaf!Foggy would have also had his fair share of 'poor disabled guy' experiences so he'd be all 'oh come on'
Matt on the other hand...hm...I can actually imagine him being somewhat awkward around other disabled people plus he's not the most outgoing and easy friend-making person in general so it would definitely take longer for them to hit off

I wonder if Foggy being disabled as well would lead Matt to be more incline to open up about the 'enhanced senses' thing??

Or less inclined. He might not want to tell him because Foggy doesn't have something similar and it may drive a wedge between them...

I can somehow see that going in a direction where Matt just withdraws slowly after a while because there's one thing having a seeing friend who offers to guide him unasked and does all sort of other stuff he could manage on his own. It's something else to have a seeing but deaf friend who still does some/all of this and also goes 'yeah, well you know how it's like in a world that isn't built for you'. And that's a level of lying Matt might just be too Catholic for. So he'd eventually be 'uhm...it was nice meeting you, bye' which would just result in Foggy going 'I know there is SOMETHING you are not telling me and NOBODY IS GOING ANYWHERE before you told me what exactly this is'.

I love how no matter what the setup is, Foggy is almost universally 100% DETERMINED to become Matt Murdock's BFF, despite Matt's protests. Because Matt HAS NO FRIENDS and that is CLEARLY A CRIME OKAY? Foggy will solve this crime. FOR JUSTICE! And friendship. XD

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Ma can't get rid of Foggy. Ever.

Funny thing about this - I'd bet deaf!Foggy immediately recognizes Matt in the mask because he's so used to watching his lips when he speaks.
