INTO IT.

An AU in which Karen or Claire befriends Elektra maybe? Like, maybe Claire patches her up after a fight and becomes her (initially) unwitting ally? Or word gets around in the criminal world about Karen being an excellent shot and Elektra recruits/trains her as an assassin? (Bullseye!Karen?)
(Or hey, let's combine both scenarios have a threeway!)
Either way, in between UST and moral ambiguity, Ben Urich investigates and pulls a Freddie Lounds on them, calling them Murder Wives in an article?

Usually murderhusbands/wives/boy/girlfriends would get a fluffier response from me but double oops that's not what inspiration said. Please forgive any errors as i wrote this on my phone at work orz

"You called us murder girlfriends," Karen says flatly.

Foggy winces. Yes, okay, maybe that hadn't been his most shining moment of grace and intelligence, but in his defense, "Well, you did almost get Matt killed."

And that is the kicker, isn't it? Foggy had more or less told Matt things would end up going this way. Foggy really, really hates it every time Matt agrees with him or proves him right. Foggy's not the only one suffering here, is the thing.

Karen looks at him like he's betrayed her, and he's not entirely sure she gets to feel that way - he's not sure she doesn't, either, but. "That's not our fault," she says, and her voice wobbles between hurt and outrage.

He doesn't like the sound of either of them and is having a hard time meeting her eyes. God, he likes her - really, really likes her. He'd thought she was their friend, but friends don't team up with Matt's morally questionable ex-girlfriends and get his best friend almost killed.

Karen takes a breath that quivers, and holds it, and she says, quiet and damning, "Maybe if you guys would give me a little support, I wouldn't have to go looking for it from outside sources."

And she has a point, is the thing, and Foggy looks away, rubbing a hand over his face. She has a point - to an extent, because he'd thought they had been. He really thought they had been, but they obviously hadn't seen everything, or otherwise Elektra would never have found a handhold on Karen. And maybe she didn't ask, but they hadn't offered, either.

"Okay," he says, and it comes out strange, like he'd swallowed the noise. "Okay, but you're still out there, and people are dying, and that's - that's not okay."

"Okay," she says, "but it's certainly not murder!" Her voice shakes and explodes into outrage, and he's never regreted being plithy more in his entire life. Shit. Fuck this, and fuck everything that's lead to this, to his best friend being Daredevil and Karen being a murderer and Elektra being in the middle of it and unintentionally egging Karen on because she's just as bad as Matt: capable of doing incredible things and dragging people with her whether they can handle it or not. He and Karen were normal people, and they weren't made for this.

"I'm sorry," he says, because he is. "I'm sorry for saying that, I was wrong. It was wrong to say, and I wasn't trying to hurt you, but I did, and that was wrong. This is - this entire thing is so fucked up, Karen. Can't you at least see that?"

"Yeah," she says, nodding sharp and jagged and her eyes are red, and she dashes her fingers across her wet cheeks. "Yeah, I can see that. I've been seeing that all along, Foggy. I wasn't the one with my head in the sand. You and Matt - you don't understand. You don't understand what it's like. And - and until you do, I don't know -" she swallows, and looks away. She gathers herself, breathes in and out, and she's not calm but she's in control when she says: "I don't know that we have a lot to talk about."

So that's it - that's the death knell. Or maybe it's not but that's what it sounds like, and he says "Karen," but she doesn't have time for it. She holds up her hand and can't look at him, and maybe it's just as well because he wouldn't know what to say anyway.

"Bye, Foggy," she says, quiet like the eye of the storm, and steps around him. He doesn't watch her leave, but he feels every step, and rubs his hands over his face and thinks this city is going to tear them all apart.
