"NA"? (not up to date with abbreviations here....) I just wanted to chime in that it's true that Miller defined the character as much darker, but I don't think that everything that came after him was just Matt-torture. Like, my favourite run of DD is the current Waid/Samnee one, and I adore the way Matt is funny, and vain, and also stands up for himself (like, he calls Foggy out when he isn't being supportive of Matt's attempts to be a happier person, he even straight up *yells* at him when Foggy attempts to have Matt committed. He doesn't think that he somehow deserves this because he is a horrible person).

I'm also someone who likes writing the 'Matt forgets to eat if Foggy doesn't make him' trope into her stories, because caretaking is cute and romantic, but I don't think there's actually any evidence of that in canon - you don't get a cut body like Matt's if you don't make sure you get enough sleep/protein/rest, which he therefore in between his adventures regularly has to, it's just not very exciting (they think) to put that on comic book pages. (I'd read the shit out of an arc where Matt is basically just taking care of himself, but hey...)

Ooooh, yes. I ADORE any and all fanfics that don't show Matt just feeling guitly, but also show how much he likes being this strong, how awesome it is to walk into a fight with ten people and be reasonably sure you're gonna come out on top. How much fun it is to *smirk* right before throwing yourself into the fray. Gimme all the 'Matt being hot shit and he owns it' fanfics, please :D

Yeah, that's true for me most of the time, but like you said, sometimes a particular kink/scenario only appeals when it's with a particular character in a very particular set of circumstances. And in those cases sometimes I just go, fuck canon, I want what I want. I'm just shallow sometimes. :P

Eh, I'm honestly not sure. For me, I like Matt the way he is in canon, but I do enjoy the hell out of a lot of woobie Matt fic that I think is OOC. I can't really explain why it appeals, or why I can't get the same enjoyment by reading original fiction about the same circumstances happening to a character that vaguely resembles Matt. Sometimes I just want to a read about Matt being very emotionally fragile, even if that's not quite how I see him in canon. I figure if we can write fics about "what if [character] was a demon/werewolf/Red Room agent", we can also write "what if [character] was an even bigger woobie than in canon" fics.

Also, even if someone likes to write fic that they think is OOC, that might not be the only way they want to write them. Sometimes one person might want something that's closer to canon characterization, and other times they might want something that's not so much. Or of course they might just have an interpretation of the character that differs from yours, and strikes you as OOC, but it can make perfect sense to them.

Matt has a tentacle for a dick. Was it always like that? Or does his dick get magically transformed into a tentacle? You decide.

I feel bad for wanting this but I do...

I love this exchange, and can only see it turning into Frank pinning Matt and explaining all the ways that Matt's great. Or, you know, the angriest, hottest praise kink ever.

There's something wrong with me, because I can only think of how cute this would be. Matt's dick in the shower, reaching for the shampoo because it's closer. Matt's dick snuggling around in his undies until it can get comfy. Matt's dick mapping out his partner's genitalia in an echo of his earlier mapping their face. Matt's dick making happy popping suckery sounds when he's turned on.

Claire is a vampire; either she's always been one, or she gets turned at some point during the show, whichever you like. She's been surviving on bloodbanks and city animals, along with the occasional rapist who thought the pretty nurse walking home was an easy target. Thing is, that sort of diet's like junk food for vampires - it fills her up, but it's not healthy at all.
Matt finds out, and offers to feed her.

In a weird sort of one-up-(wo)manship contest, Claire and Karen start sending pics of the boys to each other. Claire's are mostly Matt and Frank shirtless (bloody and bruised), while Karen's are of Foggy and Brett arguing, holding babies, and helping little old ladies across the street.
They're not sure who the winner is.

Matt squirming against Frank's hold, feeling the heat of a blush climb his chest, but every time he opens his mouth to argue Frank presses his thigh into Matt's crotch and he ends up gasping instead. And it's surprising how much it turns Matt on, because he had never thought being hurt like this would work, but feeling like a fraud and Frank forcing him to nod, agree that he's one of the good guys before he'll let Matt come..? It hurts. Leaves him clinging to Frank afterwards (and shit, he's walked away whistling with honest-to-God whipmarks on his back), while Frank settles him like a spooked horse.
