also i just remembered this but stimming isn't necessarily exclusive to autism. what you guys described as part of hypersensitivity can also be considered stimming.

Ohhh, so sad! I loved the Lion King one in particular - it seems so inconsequential compared to things like his loved ones, but for a little kid who loved lions, I can see it just really rubbing salt in the wound. (And Foggy narrating it for him later - so cute!)

Stick V. Nelson-Murdock Part 1.3

It was well past the time that Matt should have left, he didn’t need the alarm to tell him so. Foggy’s weight at his back was solid and reassuring, breathing finally evening out into soft snores after a bout of insomnia that had left him tossing and turning for nearly an hour.

In their early days together, Foggy’s snores had driven him to distraction, pillow clamped tightly to his ears, face buried under the covers in the vain hope that it would become easier to cope with in time. It had taken months to learn to process it like any other superfluous sound, rain on the rooftop or wind through the trees or the sirens that seemed to pass by every handful of minutes. When he finally had an apartment to himself again, he had faced the opposite problem. How was he supposed to sleep without the second heartbeat in the room and Foggy’s steady breaths to tell him all was well?

He had adapted, and adapted yet again after that first night when Foggy had ever so tentatively hinted that maybe he should just stay the night.

“I mean, hailing cabs is one of my gifts and with the hangover we’re looking at I have no interest in venturing out into public.” His Vs always slurred into Fs just before Foggy hit the point of no return, vowels elongating a little and consonants dropping left and right depending on how much more he had to drink. Even then it was a voice Matt liked, not exactly cut out for the Met but better in his books for belonging to a friend.

He had been just tipsy enough to confess that to Foggy, just enough that he hadn’t moved away when Foggy leaned in for a disappointingly chaste kiss that had worked wonders in sobering him up. Not too sober, but enough to convince Foggy that he was more than welcome to stay the night and why should either one of them give up the bed when it was big enough for two?

Best closing argument he had ever made as far as Matt was concerned.

And now Stick was threatening that. How long would Foggy stick around if Stick found him and started whispering poison in his ear? Matt knew from experience how reasonable his old mentor could make sheer insanity sound, and Foggy hadn’t exactly had an easy time of it when he figured out Matt’s after work activities. He had left and come back, but Matt didn’t want to take the chance that he would leave again. Meaning he needed to get up and find Stick and tell him to get out of Hell’s Kitchen before this became any more personal than it already was.

With an effort, Matt untangled himself from the silken sheets, the same ones Stick despised so much. It wasn’t a luxury he intended to give up, this habit of ‘surrounding himself with soft things’; if he had learned anything at all it was that this softness was the balance he needed to stay sane: the silk sheets in stark contrast to rough bandages, Foggy’s determined optimism to wash away the bitter disappointment at all the injustices he couldn’t fix, and the reassurance that both would be waiting for him even if the fights didn’t always go his way.

Foggy’s breath grew shallower, rising to consciousness at the brief disturbance. Matt waited for him to wake, knowing there would be hell to pay later if he had the opportunity for a farewell and didn’t take it. Foggy did worry, that much was no exaggeration.

“Matt, you’re still awake?” His voice slurred with fatigue, Foggy just barely managed to get it out before sleep took him again. It was definitely one of his more charming traits, Matt had long since decided, that Foggy could sleep like the dead whenever the mood took him. One of them definitely needed to.

“Be back in a few.” Foggy wouldn’t hear it, but it was a comfort to hear it spoken aloud. A promise even if he was the only one who knew it.

He dressed quickly and silently, delighting at the feel of his new suit’s contours in his hands. It was sharp, Foggy said, usually with just a tinge of a flirtation in his tone Matt was reasonably certain he hadn’t even noticed. If his greatest concern was competing with his own alter-ego for Foggy’s approval Matt reasoned life was still pretty good. He intended to keep it that way.


(Wow. I might actually manage to finish this before the weekend is out, but I might not be able to update until Saturday so have this small part. :) )

SUCH communication issues. They're terrible, but they'll get this sorted. Eventually. Maybe even before somebody gets hurt.

Ahaha, I probably should have gone with the original draft of the drinking thing, though. Essentially I think Foggy's the type that would go for that whole 'good luck to clink the glasses with friends' thing.

Pfft, agreed. Foggy is a gooey Marshmallow and I love him for it. :)

Minifill — With Arms Wide Open

“And stay down!” Thug 1 snarled as he gave Matt a kick.

Matt wasn’t good at obeying orders from his loved ones, much less someone trying to kill him. He rolled out of the way, got back up, and went back to punching.

Thug 2 leaped at him. Matt swung out of the way and brought his knee up just in time to catch him in the gut.

A bullet whizzed by a foot away from his head, a present from Thug 3. Matt did his poor aim a favour by leaping over to him and snapping his arm in the wrong direction.

Thug 4 clobbered him in the ribs with the butt of a gun. Matt swiveled around to elbow her in the face—paused—snarled, and jumped away. “What the fuck—”

Thug 2 and Thug 5 leap at him together. Matt ducked out of the way, rolled his eyes as they slammed into each other with curses, and immediately jumped out of the way of Thug 4’s roundhouse kick before turning to take care of Thug 1 again, ignoring her completely.

This went on another twenty seconds or so before Thug 4 finally shouted out, “Seriously? The Daredevil is a chauvinist? Won’t hit a girl?”

“I’ll hit anyone trying to kill me, lady,” Matt growled as he finally pounded Thug 3 into unconsciousness. “I won’t hit a baby.”

“The fuck are you calling me?” Thug 4 snapped as she shot at him, missed, and grazed Thug 1.

“Not you—what else would you like me to call your fetus?”

The four remaining thugs all came to a stop so suddenly that Matt actually lost his balance and tumbled. He turned it into a roll to pop back onto his feet, but it didn’t matter; Thugs 1, 2, and 5 were too busy staring at Thug 4 in shock.

Thug 4 stared at Matt in shock. “You—you’re lying.”

Matt sighed. “I’m really not. It’s too early for a heartbeat, but there’s something going on in there, and I don’t think it’s tapeworm. Can the rest of us go back to fighting?”

Thug 4 turned to Thug 1, who took a step forward. “Is he—are you—”

“My period is late,” Thug 4 admitted shyly.

Whooping, Thug 1 ran up to grab her, picking her up and swinging her around. “We’re gonna be parents!”

Thug 2 cheered happily for them and pounded Thug 1’s back in congratulations while Thug 5 shook Thug 3 wildly. “Manny, Manny, wake up! Hank and Kelly’re havin’ a baby! C’mon, man, ain’t no time for a concussion! We’ve got a baby shower to plan!”

Matt gaped at the lot of them before shaking his head, turning around, and leaving. Bullets and knives, kicks and punches he could do; baby shower planning, on the other hand, was so not what he’d signed up for.

DUDE, wait -

What if Matt does this with the police. Like, they come to him and ask for his help, or he offers to help. And they make sure he's safe and everything; have somebody watching his apartment and put a wire on him or something, and set him up with a fake bf/gf that's actually an undercover cop.

And the serial killer is totally lured in, but they're not convinced that the fake bf/gf is the one doing the abusing, because the killer is really good at reading body language, right? So they can tell that Matt and the fake bf/gf haven't been together long (or else, the killer has been watching Matt longer than any of them realized and knows that Matt's been walking around with injuries for a while), and when the killer realizes that it's not his bf/gf that's doing the abusing, the killer focuses on Matt's other relationships.

And eventually concludes that it must be FOGGY that's hurting Matt, because they're so close.

Hey OP, just wanted to let you know I'm working on this. I've got a really long fill I'm writing for another fandom, so I'll have to work around that, but I do intend to fill your prompt!

I hope you don't mind if I include the Avengers. My current plan involves them. Do you have any particular pairings (romance or even just special attention given to certain friendships) you want included? Or simply leave it up to me? Or would you rather I not really focus on any of that?

And I really mean double-whump with Matt knowing but he can't exactly tell Karen that he has to leave her alone with her worry because he needs to go Daredeveling/even if he could armed robbers + several unarmed panicked civilians is not a situation that can be solved be going in and just punching everybody and he is a bit too panicky right now to come up with a good plan.

Daredevil does Die Hard in Avengers Tower

The major villain of your choice attacks Hell's Kitchen, and Daredevil goes up against them. The Avengers arrive and an unconscious Matt is taken back to the tower and left in the care of the medical staff there, while the Avengers head back into the fight.

Except it was all a distraction and the real target was the tower.

Matt wakes up alone, and quickly realises that something is wrong. The villain has erected some kind of force field that is preventing the Avengers from getting inside and Matt receives a call on his burner phone from Tony Stark, who tells him that he is their only hope to take the tower back.

Trapped together + unwanted boner (noncon?)

Matt (as daredevil) and somebody (preferably an enemy) get trapped together somewhere and it's really close quarters and they're practically on top of each other (maybe Matt is literally laying on top or underneath the person). They're both moving around trying to figure a way out and whoops! Matt gets a boner.

Matt is mortified. But the whoever that Matt's trapped with is a) really mean and b) thinks it's hilarious, so they start rubbing up against him to make him come.

It's kind of hilarious that this kink meme could be seen as kind of like that gallery.

I say it in the most very affectionate way. The difference is we love him instead of hate him.

Person from above again. I agree wholeheartedly about Miller. I do.

(But please, can we not forget though that Miller did create Elektra. So I hear the Karen complaints, but let's just not forget that. Yes, she's problematic, but she's also awesome and generally treated as Matt's equal or better).

However, I am not just talking about the Miller era when I talk about Matt and women. Regardless of if Miller started it or not, when you look at even what Bendis, Smith, Brubaker and even Waid have done with the character, he is not someone whose sexism can be chalked up to the old boys club of comics.

I think that there are elements built into Matt's character that are extremely problematic but also realistic and interesting when it comes to women. Here you have a guy whose mother abandoned him, who was raised by nuns, and who doesn't have the same sort of close female friend/love interest-type characters who other heroes get the luxury of.

He has an ex-wife who literally got driven mad because of him, who when she tried to divorce him played the "but I'm Catholic" card solely to manipulate her into staying and wouldn't sign the papers, who then tried so desperately to keep control of her even when she was institutionalized that Foggy had to talk sense into him, as Foggy has had to do with him in relation to women many times throughout the run of the comic. That's not Miller - that's Bendis and Brubaker, both of whom have shown themselves to be open-minded and thoughtful writers when it comes to female characters in other stuff they've worked on. That arc literally ends with Matt recognizing that he messed everything up and apologizing to her for loving her to begin with, because what happened between them was his fault.

And then, with Kirstie under Waid's run, you get a version of Matt who is overcoming very serious depression and mental health issues and makes a clear choice to break his previous cycles with women by being honest with her and by being different.

So I think it's more purposeful and a different legacy than with some of the other ways sexism has had an impact on other characters. And I do feel like the show gets that, but is doing it in a way that's less about making Karen a victim, which I am onboard with. As the person above points out, there's a definite reason that Claire didn't want anything to do with a relationship with Matt, and I never took it as being only because he's Daredevil.

Oh yay! Because I do so enjoy your snippets, so nice to know this meets with your approval. :D

Because, really. Foggy isn't stupid. If he and DD are getting together on the regular, then he's going to put 2 and 2 together and get 5 eventually. Even if DD's careful to keep him from ever getting a good look at his face (even just the bottom half!), Foggy will eventually notice the similarities. Maybe Matt doesn't cover an injury carefully enough and Foggy remembers that DD was hurt in just that same place. Maybe Matt forgets himself enough (because he's with Foggy, the one guy that's completely in under his guard) that he starts slipping up and using Matt-phrases in DD's voice. Maybe Foggy just spends enough time staring at Matt's mouth that he really does recognize him that way. Whatever.

I can totally see Foggy going on a multi-day bender after that little epiphany while Matt quietly freaks out (in both guises), because something is oh-so-very wrong and Foggy won't tell (either of) him what it is. So he's probably actually kind of relieved despite the heartbreak when Foggy finally sits DD down for The Talk. And then Foggy spills about being head over heels for Matt. And that's awesome! ...Right up until he remembers that it can't ever happen. Because of SECRETS.

Cue moping and misery until Foggy snaps and goes OH MY GOD MATT I DIDN'T THINK YOU WERE THIS BLIND WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET INTO YOUR NON-CRIMEFIGHTING PANTS, JESUS CHRIST at him or something. XD
