Natasha is Matt's mom

As in the comics, Natasha is older than she looks. Back in the 80s*, on an undercover op for the KGB, she had a relationship with Jack Murdock. Jack had no idea, no connection to the case. He was just cover.

The pregnancy added verisimilitude, or at least that's what Natasha told her handlers.

When the op ended, Natasha left. But the cracks in her programming were starting to open wide. That number Jack called before his last fight was the dead drop she left him, calculating that she'd hurt him badly enough that he'd only call in a real emergency.

Of course she didn't come to take Matt away from the orphanage. They both would've been dead in six months if anyone knew the Widow cared about a child. But the Irish mob in Hell's Kitchen suddenly became a lot smaller. (Stick, though? Natasha probably approved of Stick. Toughen the kid up, teach him to survive.)

Then Natasha looks away for a few years because the kid's in law school and just how much trouble can he get into as a corporate attorney and when she checks back in again a few months after the Battle of New York JESUS CHRIST.

*Early 90s? How old are freshly minted lawyers these days? Oh god, I'm so old. YOU'RE ALL BABIES.
