Taking some ideas from the other anons in this thread because this is an awesome prompt

It starts within a week of Matt meeting Foggy.

'Matt. Matt. Matt.' He hums in acknowledgement but continues reading the notes from his Torts lecture.

'Maaaaaaaatt. We should go out.' Foggy shifts on his bed and Matt finally lifts his head, so he's 'looking' at his roommate... his friend.

'We have class tomorrow.'

'Nerd. Not until ten.'

Matt checks his watch, not surprised at the time he feels. 'Foggy, it's eleven now. No way we'll be sober enough for class at ten if we go out now.'

There's a shift of air that indicates Foggy has just shrugged. 'I shrugged,' he narrates after a long second. 'Sorry. But we should totally go out and pick up chicks. It'll be awesome.'

With a shake of his head, Matt lines up his knockout punch. 'Foggy, it's a Wednesday. Tomorrow is Retro Night, when everyone goes clubbing, why not wait?'

'Huh. Okay.' Matt hears him open up a book, too light to be a textbook but a book, and breathes a sigh of relief.

It's not just drinking Matt has to talk Foggy out of.

'Foggy, we can't have a dog.'

'But he's adorable! And soft!' Foggy shifts beside Matt and gently takes Matt's hand, placing it on an admittedly soft dog.

Matt sighs. 'We live in a dorm.'

There's a silence as Foggy considers this. Then, 'Guide dog?'

The dog licks at Matt's hand. 'I'd need registration papers. Could probably do it but not for this guy.' Matt gives the dog a final pat, then pats Foggy's shoulder. 'Take him to a no-kill shelter man.'

Foggy sighs. 'Fiiiiine.'

Half the time it's for ridiculous things.

'Oh! Pillow fort!'

'We don't have enough pillows.' Matt hears the excited breath and hurriedly adds, 'we can't afford to buy enough pillows for a pillow fort.'

'Damn it.'

Or:

'Matt, hot dog eating competition!'

'No.'

Foggy stops and Matt is forced to stop with him, or lose his grip on Foggy's elbow. 'But we could win so many hot dogs! A year's supply. Think of all the money we could save.'

Matt raises an eyebrow. 'I hate hot dogs Foggy. And you're not fond of them either.'

'But they're free.' Matt shakes his head at his best friend and keeps on walking. After a moment, Foggy's arm touches his and Matt slips his hand back onto his friend's elbow.

It doesn't stop when they graduate but by that time, Matt has it down to an art form.

The moment Foggy takes an excited breath, Matt has his cue. 'No.'

'Aww, but-'

'Nope.'

And they walk on.

By the time they start Nelson and Murdock, Matt doesn't even need the breath. He knows the heartbeat that means Foggy has an impulse.

'No.'

Foggy must turn his head. 'But I didn't say anything!'

Matt smiles. 'You were about to. No.'

'I definitely wasn't.'

'Foggy,' Matt says with a warning in his voice.

At least Foggy can take that hint. 'And if I had hypothetically been able to say anything, it might have been that it would totally be fun to go join in that baseball game over there.'

Matt smiles. 'Was not.'

'Fiiine, it was that we should totally go enter the ho-'

'Not the hot dogs again Foggy. We've been over this.'

'Awww.' But he drops it and keeps walking, so it's a victory for Matt.

Karen gets her first taste of it after the events with Fisk. Matt's not sure when Foggy learnt enough impulse control that it has taken this long to surface.

'No.' Karen jumps as Matt seemingly speaks randomly. He can feel her confusion but before she speaks, Foggy groans.

'But Matt, it would be so cool.'

'Don't care. No.'

Foggy gestures, rather enthusiastically by the movement of air. 'But beanbags.'

'Professionalism.'

'Bean. Bags.'

Matt shakes his head. 'No Foggy.'

Foggy throws back his head and gives his surrendering sigh. 'Fiiine.'

Karen finally finds her voice. 'What the hell?'

'Foggy has no impulse control,' Matt sums up with a shrug.

'I do so.'

Matt raises an eyebrow at his friend. 'Three words. 'Chocolate tomato paste'.'

Both Karen and Foggy are vocal in their distaste. 'In my defence,' Foggy says, 'I was a bit drunk and I figured tomato paste made pizzas awesome and chocolate is awesome so why wouldn't they be awesome together?'

'You weren't drunk. We got drunk afterwards to get rid of the taste.' Matt hears Foggy's flinch and it takes him a moment to realise it's just dawned on his friend exactly what that meant for Matt, with his senses.

'Oh yeah. But the chocolate pizza was great.'

'Because we were drunk.'

Karen is laughing. 'Oh man, I wish I'd known you guys back then.'

'So do we,' Matt says with a smile. 'I could have used a hand in wrangling this guy's impulses. We ended up with six months worth of Easter Eggs one year because Foggy spent our grocery money on half-priced chocolate.'

Foggy makes a displeased noise. 'I am glaring at you right now. We ate.'

Matt waves a dismissive hand at him. 'Yeah, we ate chocolate for a solid week. I was sick of the sight of it!'

'You couldn't see it!'

'Exactly!' Matt says and they all lose it completely. 'Never let Foggy shop alone. Or out alone,' he says once they have their breath back.

'Shut up.' Foggy sounds like he is pouting and Karen and Matt crack up again.

'Nope,' Matt says the moment he hears Foggy's heart pick up in delight and his friend groans. They're sitting on Matt's couch, drinking his beer while Foggy scrolls through Netflix for a good show to watch.

'How do you do that?' Then he seems to consider it. 'My heartbeat?'

Matt shrugs. 'Well, yes. But also the way you take an excited breath and the way you kinda tense up in delight and the fact that I know exactly when you've got an idea in your head.'

Foggy hums in acknowledgement. 'That makes sense. And so does this- American Ninja Warrior.'

'NO!'
