Matt/Foggy - established married lawyers

(Anonymous) 2015-06-13 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
They've been married for years. They get annoyed when they have to explain to clients and oppositions that their firm is 'Nelson-Murdock', not 'Nelson & Murdock'.

*client looking at their wedding rings* "Wow, you two are married! Good to see this generation believes in commitment, huh?" *Matt clears his throat.* "Well..." "SO how do your wives like you working in this neighborhood? Mine's always worried about that kinda thing."

*awkward silence that lasts for years and years until the client suddenly gets the hint*

I love this so much. Like Matt and Foggy getting together fics do nothing for me, but give me all the established marrieds fic, domestic fluff, dorky husbands, the gentle yet unshakable comfort of a solid relationship, give me everything I need it all.

Fill: Nelson-Murdock (There's No 'And')

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I included a lot of the ideas from other anons in this thread so thank you anons! I hope you don't mind. I also hope this is what you wanted OP.

'Nelson-Murdock?' Karen reads, and Matt smiles as he hears the brush of her fingers over their, admittedly, make-shift sign. 'Shouldn't it be Nelson and Murdock?'

Foggy laughs. 'Should be, if we were Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock. But we figured Nelson-Murdock and Murdock-Nelson was a touch redundant.'

Karen's heart skips a beat as it, apparently, dawns on her what their relationship is. Matt doesn't exactly blame her; it's not like they introduced themselves with their full surnames and she has been through a tough twenty-four hours. She might not have noticed the rings. The really obvious gold rings they're both wearing. On their left ring fingers.

'How long?'

Matt leads her to a chair. 'Two years now. Longest years of my life.'

'Hey!' Foggy cries but Karen laughs and that's all that matters.

********

Matt always leaves his ring behind when he lets the devil out, kept safe on a chain around Foggy's neck. It's one he decided to wear after their fourth fight about Matt's activities... the time Foggy finally gave up on stopping him and started supporting him. Something about Matt choosing to faint halfway through the fight destroyed any of Foggy's anger and Matt woke to him begging Matt to at least be more careful next time. To always come back to him.

It's nice.

But it also means that sometimes when Matt gets back really early he just doesn't have the heart to wake Foggy to get his ring back. And then some mornings they're in such a rush to get to the office that well... Matt doesn't get a chance to ask for it back then either.

'Did you guys have a fight?' Karen asks sympathetically, leaning over his desk with a cup of coffee. Matt blinks in confusion, trying to figure out what he's done that could imply that.

'No?' He raises his voice. 'Foggy, are we fighting?'

Foggy walks to Matt's doorway and Matt can hear Karen's heartbeat pick up. She's anxious. Why?

'Not that I know of? Why, did I do something?'

'Matt isn't wearing his ring,' Karen says in a rush and relief floods Matt. Ah. 'I noticed this morning when he signed the papers on my desk and I was just wondering...'

There's the sound of flesh hitting flesh then Foggy says, 'I just face palmed. Matt, hand out.' Matt hears the clink of Foggy's chain and puts his hand out for his ring. He slips it on easily. 'I totally forgot, why didn't you remind me?'

Matt shrugs. 'Figured I could get it off you tonight.' He adds a touch of a leer to his voice and senses the brush of air as Karen throws her hands up.

'I don't even want to know.' She leaves and both Matt and Foggy breathe a sigh of relief.

Crisis averted.

********

'You're such nice boys, you know.' Mrs Grant pats at Matt's hand that he'd placed on the desk to reassure her. 'Helping an old lady out.'

'It is our job, Mrs Grant. And it's a pleasure to do it.' Foggy returns then, bringing in the paperwork Mrs Grant needs to sign so they can start working on her defense against her neighbour's fraudulent claims. Matt's hoping for an easy case. They're due one.

The fact Mrs Grant can afford to pay is just a bonus.

'It really is.' Foggy takes a seat beside Matt as Mrs Grant removes her hand. He pats Matt on the shoulder. 'We should be able to get this whole thing cleared up soon.'

Mrs Grant sighs happily. 'Oh, such nice boys. Oh! You're both married!' Matt blinks in surprised before realising she's only just seen their rings. 'It's so lovely to see someone of your generation who believes in commitment.' Matt clears his throat, unsure of his next statement but Mrs Grant keeps going. 'Aren't your wives concerned though? Working in such a neighbourhood like this. I always used to worry about my Ray; he was such a good man. Not suited for a place like this. Do they worry?'

Matt is dumbfounded, unsure of how to even word a reply. Foggy seems as surprised because he doesn't say anything either. Mrs Grant must be waiting for a reply, because she says nothing either.

It's very awkward.

Finally it must dawn on the woman that she's said something wrong. 'Oh, my! You're, oh. My mistake! What do your.. husbands? think of this?'

'I'm not sure.' Foggy finally answers. 'Matt, what do you think of me working in a neighbourhood like this?'

Matt shrugs. 'Can't say much, not without being a hypocrite.'

There's another awkward silence before Mrs Grant starts to laugh. 'Oh, you must think I'm such a fool!'

Foggy shuffles. 'I'm smiling Matt. No Mrs Grant, we don't. Now, let's go over the case again?' Matt decides to not mention to Foggy exactly how bad a liar he is.

********

'This is Nelson and Murdock?' A man's voice, to go with the shoes Matt heard coming up the stairs and the obnoxious cologne he's being forced to smell. Cheap shit, clearly.

Karen's voice is strained. 'Nelson-Murdock, yes. Can I help you?'

'I want to speak to the partners here.' Matt bristles on behalf of Karen at the dismissive tone in the man's voice.

'And the partners aren't interested in speaking to you.' Foggy's voice is Matt's cue to rise and make his way to his office's doorway. 'Please leave.'

Clearly this man can't take a hint. 'I'm here on behalf of my client, Mr Lemmingway. We wish to discuss your motion regarding his complaint towards a Mrs Grant.'

Oh. Damn. 'Unfortunately we do not have the time to discuss this motion with you right now,' Matt lies. 'We're about to have a meeting with another client.' In three hours. 'If you could make an appointment with Karen, we'll be happy to discuss this at a later date.'

Foggy sniffs in dismissal. 'And it's Nelson-Murdock. No 'and'.'

'What?'

Matt has to hide a smile as Foggy replies. 'We're married. Nelson-Murdock. No 'and'. Please remember it.' Then he moves to Matt's side and they slam Matt's door in the man's face. They take two steps to the right so they're no longer visible before Matt turns Foggy so they're facing another.

'You are an awful liar.' Foggy giggles, as he gently kisses Matt. 'How did you manage to lie then?'

'Not a lie.' Matt kisses him back. 'It's the truth. We don't have time for that arsehole and we do have a meeting.'

Foggy clinks their rings together, aware of both how the noise sounds to Matt and the effect it has on him. 'You need to learn to do that kind of lying every other time. Seriously Mr 'I fell while taking out the trash'.'

Matt has to lock his knees, glaring at Foggy for what he's doing. He doesn't want him to stop though. 'People buy it.'

'Yeah but you're making us look bad! Like we can't even manage basic domestic tasks without someone getting hurt.' Foggy shakes his head. It's then Karen opens the door.

'And he's gone. What an-oh. Sorry.'

With a sigh, Matt pulls away. 'It's fine. When do we have to meet him?'

********

Matt manages not to flinch as Foggy stitches up the latest wound from his Daredevil work. It's relatively minor - compared to some of the other wounds Foggy's found on Matt - but still deep enough to need stitches.

And Matt had tried to hide it. So Foggy isn't too happy.

He pulls the last stitch through, rougher than usual, and Matt can't hide the flinch this time. Foggy doesn't seem to care as he cuts the thread off.

'Sorry?' Matt tries to apologise again.

But Foggy just shakes his head. 'You're really not.'

Matt lowers his head, so Foggy doesn't have to look at his face. 'I didn't want you to worry. I could handle it.' Matt can smell the salt and hear the drops of Foggy's tears. His own haven't fallen yet but he can feel them in his eyes.

Foggy gently grabs Matt's chin and Matt allows his husband to raise his face, so Foggy can see his eyes. With a gentle hand, Foggy wipes away the tears. Matt raises his hands to Foggy's face to do the same and leaves them there, feeling out Foggy's expressions.

'I worry no matter what Matt. If you're going to do this, I want to know everything. You promised me everything, remember.'

He does. 'For better and for worse,' he says weakly and Foggy gives him a wet laugh.

'Yeah, that too.' Matt can feel his smile. 'Not sure if this is better or worse though.'

'Better, surely. I'm conscious.'

Foggy's smile slips a bit. 'The fact that is a measure of better should not be reassuring.' He then sighs and traces around Matt's left eye. 'You're going to have a shiner tomorrow. Karen will notice. What are we going to tell her this time?'

Matt shrugs. 'I fell? It's not too impossible.'

'And where was I when this happened?'

Another shrug. 'Fine then. Boxing injury. The bag got me.' Foggy laughs and Matt smiles at the feeling of Foggy's joy under his fingertips.

'If that works, I'll make dinner for a week.' He traces Matt's bruise again. 'Boy, this looks like I didn't do my job as a husband. I am supposed to the eyes of this operation to your everything else.'

'You're really failing at that.' Matt bites his lip so he doesn't laugh. 'I should divorce you.' For a moment Matt thinks he's gone too far, but Foggy's expression doesn't change.

'You won't.'

With a smile, Matt falls into the familiar argument. 'I do know a good lawyer.'

'I know a better one.'

'That's true.' Matt drops his hands. 'My lawyer is nothing without his partner.'

Foggy drops his hands too. Matt starts to look down but Foggy moves forward and he allows himself to be pulled into a kiss. 'So's mine,' Foggy whispers as he draws back from the kiss. 'I've heard they're so much better together.'

'Well then Mr Nelson-Murdock. Shall they stay together?'

'Always.'
