It's not so much that he means to hang up on Claire, but somewhere between her news registering and his legs starting to move, the phone gets shoved in his pocket.
At the hospital, he remembers he really shouldn't have been able to get here this fast. He may possibly have darted into traffic once or twice. Shit.
Well. He's here now.
He straightens up, walks as calmly as he can through the entrance, finds the front desk - “Page and Nelson, I'm – I'm looking for Karen Page and Fff- Franklin Nelson, they were just–“
“Matt?”
“Karen!”
He turns to her, reaches out, stops – can't tell yet if she's injured, shouldn't be able to tell at all if she's injured, but Karen pulls him into a hug. “I was just about to call you! How did you know?”
“Uh.” Matt swallows. “Friend of mine. Called me, rec- recognized your names, are you - ? Are you -”
“I'm okay.”
Relieved, he hugs back. “Where's -” it catches in his throat, he tries to swallow again, still can't bring himself to finish the question. Karen takes a breath and he doesn't like the way her heartbeat jumps. “Karen?”
“He's-”
“Matt!”
Matt lets go of Karen, whirls around, sprints across the lobby and down the length of the adjoining hall – dodging people and letting people dodge him; tries to look like he can't tell exactly where they are – stops just short of slamming into Foggy because Foggy is – injured, definitely, there is blood, no, there was blood.
Foggy reaches out, left hand on Matt's shoulder, Matt thinks his right arm might be in a sling, fuck, okay, that's not that bad, stop panicking, Murdock(he just can't stop thinking, remembering, getting home that night and listening to those messages, Karen and Foggy in an explosion, Foggy in the hospital and–).
Matt pulls him carefully into an embrace, which Foggy returns with his good arm, and yes, the right one is definitely in a sling. “How did you-”
“Claire,” Matt gasps, finally out of breath, now, after all that running, after Karen being okay, now that Foggy is here and alive. “She – sssaw your names, cab accident, said she – didn't know how bad but there was – a stretcher –”
“Oh, shit. Yeah, that was me, I was out cold for about two minutes but I'm fine, buddy, I'm-”
Fine, fine, he's fine. Out cold. Sling. Blood. Matt reaches up, cups one hand around the back of Foggy's neck and –
there are a lot of people here, Matt thinks, probably belatedly, his teeth clacking painfully against Foggy's, and Foggy's mmph of surprise does not sound altogether upset by this turn of events, and then Foggy's hand is on the back of Matt's head and they are –
They are kissing passionately in a crowded hospital corridor and Matt did not plan this.
“Sorry,” Matt wheezes, breathless again, pulling back for air, and his face is sore where they've pressed his glasses into it. “Sorry.”
“I'm not,” says Foggy, and then, "the cab driver is also fine, by the way, in case you were about to feel terrible about that."
"Thanks, yes, I probably was."
And then: “Matt." Foggy's voice is quiet, very quiet. "Did you run here?”
“I'm fine,” Matt mumbles, a bit dazed.
“You really shouldn't be,” Foggy says, pointedly, and quietly, and Matt thinks, oh, right, and lets his knees buckle. Lets Foggy pull him up, one-handed, and they make their way back to Karen, who is trying very hard not to laugh at them, and failing.
“Go back and do it again,” she says. Someone is whistling. A few people are clapping. Hospital staff, mostly, are grumbling, because this is their work space, and people are hurt and sick, here. “I need video.”

“So are we,” Foggy says, the next evening, when Karen has rather tactfully and not at all subtly gone home a bit early, “going to talk, about the – the kissing thing?”
“Did you, um,” says Matt, still moving his fingers and still not reading, has been moving his fingers and not reading for the past hour, probably, “want to talk about it?”
“Uh – kinda, yeah, yes, I did have. A few questions. I'm nodding, right now, a lot, just, by the way.”
“I can tell,” Matt says, and stands up, lingers, leaning in the doorway between his office and the main room. “I'm, uh. Focusing. On you. That was... That was not supposed to sound suggestive.”
“What does it sound like when you're trying?” Foggy sounds, very slightly, like someone might be strangling him. “Was that – was that a, I don't know, 'I'm just really happy you're not dead' kiss, or like, an 'I'm really happy you're not dead and this has led me to realize I love you' kiss, or like – like, maybe, an 'I already knew I was in love with you and thinking you might be dead made me realize our time is limited, even though I regularly put myself in danger and that never seems to do the trick' kiss, or like. Help me out here, buddy.”
Matt feels, very slightly, like someone might be strangling him. “All of the above?”
Foggy starts pacing. Matt twists his cane around between his hands, twirls it on the floor. Anything to focus on, anything. He doesn't know. Foggy stops in the middle of the room. Sighs. “I just – what are we doing, from here? That's... that's what I need to know. Are we – are we dating?”
“Do you – want to be dating?”
“Neither of us has time to be dating.”
Matt nods. Twirls the cane faster. “Right.”
“I mean. I mean, we could just.” Foggy is pacing again. “We could just skip that part. Try just... being... Something.”
“Just... being something.”
“Something. Yeah. I mean. It's been –“ Foggy stops, again, throws his good arm out at his side – “hell, Matt, we've done enough shit, let's just. Call some of it dating, retroactively. All those late nights at Josie's – totally dates, now. Who knew? Not us!”
“So...” Matt breathes out slowly, wraps the cane's strap around his wrist and lets go. “Here we are.”
“Here we are,” Foggy agrees.
“Being...” Matt hums under his breath. “Something.”
Foggy takes a step closer to him. “You know how many people were in that hallway?”
Matt's face heats up. “Uh – yeah, I... have a pretty good idea.”
Another step. “Just us, now.”
Matt pushes off from the doorway. Swallows sudden hoarseness. “Yeah.”
Foggy's hand is on his tie. Like he might like to –
He would like to, in fact, and Matt removes his glasses before he leans in this time, and, eventually, he does not have to pretend his knees are buckling.

And HUGE BONUS POINTS for including the notion that they are way beyond dating.

HOLDING OUT this SECRET, PATHETIC HOPE, that Matt/Foggy might somehow magically be canon endgame even though i KNOW THEY WON'T BECAUSE IT'S MARVEL, but until it's conclusively disproven i'm going to just KEEP IMAGINING ALL THESE LITTLE SCENARIOS, with their ridiculous MADE-FOR-TV DRAMA

Generally Foggy (being a side character) doesn't have many threads which are consistently picked at (which is very disappointing for me considering he's my fave character)
(main example; what the hell is going on with ur constantly changing family dynamics)
