i feel like i should take guidance from the princess bride and say:

KAREN DOES NOT DIE IN THIS FIC

matt is hella just lying to foggy, like a creepy, creepy asshole, and is incapable of realizing that he sounds like a murderer.

karen will be fine.

(there is probably about five hundred terrifying and sad words in which we get the situation from karen's POV, where she hasn't seen Foggy for two days and he's not answering his phone, and fuck, Matt, have you seen him?

and matt looks at her very seriously and says "I'm worried about him too, Karen, he hasn't been answering his phone, I don't know, should we call somebody?" ...which, for those of you following along at home, is not...technically an answer, but at first Karen is too distracted to notice that, and then later, she brushes it off because Matt loves Foggy, and Matt has always been a little - strange.

Good, honest down to the bone, super protective of her and Foggy, but - strange. Sweet, honestly.

But then Karen starts looking for Foggy, and after the first week, week and a half, she - does she call his family? The police? Um. (I AM NOT QUITE SURE YET, but either way, fuck's sake, it is TERRIBLE. Thank god that she's there for Matt, though, because he is wrecked, and Karen doesn't know what he'd do if he didn't have someone to lean on, while they look for Foggy.)

...*cries a lot*

..."looks at her," fuck's sake, i'm tired tonight. "looks in her general direction" or "tilts his head towards her voice" or whatever. pardon me, kids.

ayrt: *is relieved* I was hoping it was something like that, but my brain also went in the "Karen is in her own cell" direction and oh no

OK, let's be real: in this thing where I'm approaching the prompt straight, no meta or humor, Matt does not have enough hours in the day to do the lawyering in the day and the vigilante work at night and also deal with the slight...kidnapping victim he has to make sure is really truly in love with him: he does not have time to get Karen in her own separate cell, right?

Karen's not the one who finds Foggy, anyways.

But in a slight AU-of-this-AU: oh no she does. she could. she's terribly, terribly smart, and Urich has been teaching her how to look for missing people, after all.

and i'm sitting here going OH OKAY WELL AND THEN EITHER SOMEBODY DIES OR MATT MURDOCK USES HIS NINJA POWERS TO TRICK BOTH OF THEM INTO FALLING IN STOCKHOLM SYNDROME WITH HIM.

("no, shut up, shut up, follow my lead," foggy said.

"no," she said: she'd gone white, but her eyes were red and puffy.

"karen can do whatever she wants," matt said. neither of them had seen him coming.)

DISASTERS.

ayrt: and then I think, Karen's is in the same building and in breaking out, one of them finds the other. and suddenly it becomes an escape fic, but like. that's way derailing, so have fun with what you got, anon. I'm not even the OP, so.
