wow. tfw you think up a possible fic and then think "no that's just too Horrible" only to find it's already comic canon.

I'm kinda getting the sense from some of these prompts that just about EVERY possible horrible thing has happened to Daredevil in comics canon. Which just makes me determined to ship Matt/Happiness even more. Like, the guy already had an awful childhood and regularly gets beaten up because he doesn't actually have super strength/healing/whatever... give him a break already. :(

Hmmm. I don't know quite how to describe it. I'm all in for the h/c and part of why I love this fandom is that Daredevil is a show practically custom-made for h/c fic. But... I can't deal with stories that do nothing but torture the main character over and over. Obviously bad things have to happen to the characters or there's no plot... but if there's no happy moments, it gets overwhelming. I feel like the Daredevil comics (and maybe comics in general) lean too much towards the latter.

it really depends on the run that you read, anon. for example frank miller's daredevil is considered the definition of overkill (in one famous example matt loses his job, home, girlfriend, and law office due to the kingpin royally fucking him up, THEN gets put in a taxi and thrown in the hudson river, THEN when he crawls out of the river is immediately stabbed) but a lot of writers do matt a lot more justice than that? i really like waid's run particularly because mark waid lives with depression himself and he writes matt as depressed but the comic isn't grimdark. matt crumbles under depression but there are extremely light moments, and overall vol 3 & 4 are a lot brighter and easier on the psyche than a lot of the junk that was in vol 2 (never mind that vol 2 is 500+ issues). so yeah, if you don't want super tragic grimdark daredevil, don't read the stories by miller or bendis. also the story where matt loses his senses is in vol 3 but overall it's just not a run filled with angst porn.
