(AYRT)I have no idea how American cities/towns work so I assumed that Hell's Kitchen was like, an actual council/election/something legal area within New York that like, had some powers and was a distinct something within the city.
That is, once I found out Hell's Kitchen was actually real. I thought it was just a name for a restaurant at first!
There's also dialogue Matt has in the final fight with Fisk that's like "This is my city; my family..." after Fisk was going on about how Hell's Kitchen doesn't deserve him and his grand plans. So at least I'm justified in my weird confusion?

I just rewatched episode 7 and there's this piece of dialogue.
Matt: What the hell are you doing in my city?
Stick: Your city? Hell's Kitchen hates your guts.
So I see where the confusion comes from.
