For the vocabulary of pain, escalation might be your best bet for avoiding repetition. Matt's a pretty disciplined kind of guy, given the right context, so perhaps you could start with low-key descriptions?
For instance: he hissed in pain, gritted his teeth, choked back a whimper, uttered a low broken sound, bit back a curse, twitched or jerked etc.
Then after a while: he couldn't stifle a yelp, his voice cracked, he uttered a sharp, pained sound, he cried out, jolted,
And then go for: he screamed, made an animal sound of distress, sobbed, his face twisted in agony, writhed, thrashed, etc
Perhaps finishing with: hoarse screams, his throat shredded, opened his mouth in a soundless scream, broken whimpers, etc
Yelled might be an option, but I don't know when you'd use it. Groaning works as a reasonable synonym for moaning. Especially if you mess around with different framing verbs and adjectives.
...Well, this has been both a fun and disturbing writing exercise. I hope that helps in some way (I also suspect I know which fill you're working on and I am super-keen to read it).
It's a little weird in my case actually, because I've been reading fanfic since I was 14 or so (since the internet was a dial-up thing, because I am an old lady) and writing it since then too. (Like, since the days when the X-Files and Buffy originally aired).
And I have been obsessed with the MCU for a while, and it is actually what got me heavily back into fic.
But this is my first time ever participating in the fanfic community in a meaningful way outside of just reading and posting fic. Never really considered any of the challenges, Big Bangs or other things that go on. Never lurked livejournal or knew kink memes were even a thing. Never wrote fics for other people. Etc.
So weirdly, Daredevil has been surprisingly intense for me in terms of my level of fandom involvement. And this meme is just absolutely THE BEST. I have people on here who I actually know the fandom names of (despite it being anon), and who I now talk to on AO3 or Tumblr. And I have written with more frequency and intensity than ever before, and actually managed to *gasp* finish some WIPs for freaking once. I feel like a real writer here.
I am wondering if they would have made a different decision had they known when they wrote the show that they were getting rights to Spider-Man back in the MCU.
Because guys... GUYS... how unbelievable would it have been if Ben had started off in Daredevil and then appeared in the Spider-Man movie. Think about it. What a waste.
I love Ben Urich so much in the comics (he is the best), and from the moment he appeared onscreen on the show I was absolutely bowled over by Vondie Curtis-Hall's portrayal because it was so, so true to the comic book version, and so his death was disappointing and shocking to me. It honestly made me jump off my couch in surprise/disgust.
There were two other photos that aren't there now. The photog posted them without a watermark and then people started stealing them and claiming them as their own and she had to take them down to put her watermark on them. She hasn't yet, but in one of the pics Matt did have blood on his cheek and mouth like someone hits him pretty hard? But Foggy's right hand had a good amount of blood on it, too, so I'm not sure what was happening but it looked like maybe Foggy was putting pressure on it or something and then switched to a kerchief. Whatever it is, Foggy is definitely motherhenning Matt out in public. ♥
Wait, for your story are you talking about the wooden sticks he uses as the man in black or the actual DD clubs he upgrades to when he starts wearing the devilsuit? Because there's a difference, yes.
Great interview with Charles Soule about taking over the Daredevil comic!
Thought folks here would aplreciate this. I am so, so excited. Charles Soule is a fantastic writer with a real legal background, and Garney is a great choice of artist. And their plans sound amazing. Matt's going back to having a secret identity! Woot!
Although, sadly no mention of the fate of Foggy Nelson or Kirsten McDuffie. *begs for their lives and cries tears of sadness forever if they're gone*
For those people on this meme considering getting into the comics, October may be the time to do it. :)
Re: Great interview with Charles Soule about taking over the Daredevil comic!
i kind of wish they'd figure out some way to make matt keep his identity public while still wearing a masked costume. it was certainly interesting to see how he interacted with his, uh, adoring fans (so many of whom were teenage girls who took selfies with him which i thought was the cutest thing ever)
not to mention this probably means there's going to be some sort of mass memory wipe, which saddens me.
Re: Great interview with Charles Soule about taking over the Daredevil comic!
There's a prompt I reaaally wanna post on the freeze post but I can't find it ;__; i think the subject line was something like 'gentle Dom!matt, bratty sub!foggy' and p sure it was the 4th prompt post, if anyone else has been keeping an eye on it/has the link??
uhm, I know it's nothing but I started working on a prompt and though being it simple -and I know I can't write long fics + my native language is not english and I'm sure it'd be big trouble when looking for the right words, I feel so happy either way about it that I just wanted to share this fact, as it'd be also my second ever fic and the first one that I'll ever publish online, so yey XD thanks meme, thanks anons and thanks dd XD
