Re: Karen, S2?

if anything, i really hope that they open up on what happened to karen in the past, because i agree with you, she was an expert shot with a gun (she was also incredibly brave to go back to her apartment for the flash drive, and incredibly smart to claw that one officer's eye out when he tried to strangle her. if anything, karen's extremely scrappy.

if they are planning to put her drug addiction/sex worker thing in her past, i wouldn't be against it, tbh. it's always better to see someone get back up than get knocked down. i can't say that she'll have had any involvment in porn, though, since we live in the age of the internet and presumably her employers probably would have been able to find the porn she was in with a simple google search. past drug addiction is possible, provided she passes a drug test. i think people just wouldn't be able to believe it since karen looks so put-together and obviously well-adjusted (but that could be what she's going for, ohoho)

i'd love the show to explore the possibility of foggy's (or even matt's) bisexual tendencies. i really would. i'm just not holding my breath for it because i got dragged around by bbc sherlock at a relatively young age (i'm 18 now, more or less an infant compared to some other anons on this meme), but the constant queerbaiting was just too much for someone just figuring out their own sexuality and i'm incredibly cautious about trusting this show with canonizing non-hetero characters. would i like it to happen? yes, absolutely, and this is a show on a streaming service which also featured kevin spacey full on making out with a man during a threeway which gives me infinitely more hope than the bbc or the cw, but i'm still cautious.

(don't worry about your word dump anon i'm equally as guilty of it at this point)

Yeah, I heard that Steven DeKnight wanted to have gay characters in Daredevil, but Marvel told him he couldn't. :( I didn't see a source for this, but I would not be surprised if this turned out to be true.

if i'm not recalling wrong, a recent marvel memo was leaked that insisted the recast peter parker had to be straight, so. of course i could just be misreading onion headlines as actual news, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Marvel Super Heroes: What The--!?

Has anybody else seen this series of stop-motion videos that some folks at Marvel put up on youtube?

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL72362A49FB745604

They're pretty blatantly just commercials, but I love them. Some that I think are probably more relevant to DD fans:

Punisher vs. Deadpool

Cranky Old Man Logan

Daredevil vs. She-Hulk

Also, this one only has a minor mention of Foggy, but I love it:

teenaged superheroes!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
so the "Matt as the accidental vigilante big brother to all the superpowered/vigilante teenagers in and around New York" prompt has me wondering about all the kid heroes in Marvel, or at least the heroes who started out as kids.

list off your favorite teenaged superheroes here! from any universe.

I'll start: I absolutely love Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop. and the rest of the Young Avengers too, from what little I've seen of them. and also Spider-Gwen.

Kamala
The Young Avengers
THE RUNAWAYS!!! (my poor babies never even got a proper ending)
All the kids from Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter, Miles, Jessica Drew, Bombshell, Kitty Pryde, Johnny Storm)
All the kids from X-Men Evolution, though especially Wanda, Kitty, Rogue and Tabitha.

What's the weirdest thing you've had to Google in order to fill a prompt for this meme?

Re: Research

I don't know if you'd call this "weird" per se, but I found it kind of funny when I realized that I, being a lesbian, don't know what it feels/tastes like to suck a dick, so I had to research it. XD;;

Hahaha, ew! Yeah, I think that qualifies as weird!

OP: The Comics Code Authority had a deathgrip over sequential art for far too long and that included filtering out any scent of teh gay, but at least Marvel was one of the first who finally stopped using it and allowing it such rampant censorship. In the 15 years since, Marvel is actually embracing the gay characters, and maybe they fuck it up sometimes but they're TRYING. They'll continue to screw up, but they're continue to learn, too. But in television media with the partnership with Disney/ABC I can't help but feel that's what will tie their hands progressively, and it's going to take longer to actually tell the same kind of out characterisations on the screen that are already available in print.

That said, I think Steven DeKnight did an AMAZING job if he was told no and still managed to say ENOUGH to convey so much between the lines. AN AMAZING JOB. :)

American style coffee

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Guys, this is totally random. I'm writing this scene and it involves someone making coffee, but then I realized that as much as I love coffee and drink it all the time, i have never actually operated one of those american style coffee pots I always see on TV and I have no idea how it's done.

I think the coffee gets made in the top of the thing and then it drips through into a big glass jug or something? Or do you tell it when you want some coffee to be in the jug so it's not sitting there for hours getting gross? Or do you make it and drink it immediately and TV that has people just walking in and pouring a cup is a misrepresentation?

I make espresso in a pot on the stove, and I have never seen that on american TV, only these jug things. Can someone please give me a step by step?

(Asking this makes me feel really stupid!)

This sort of confused me as well because Matt said about him 'blind like me, well not exactly like me' and my first thought was that this meant 'without enhanced senses' rather than e.g. 'blind from birth' which doesn't seem like an important distinction at the moment he's talking about that but on the other hand you can train as much as you want normal human senses have limits so if anybody can shed light on that and on what the hell Matt meant by that I'd be very grateful XD

1. Fill a mug up with water. (Most mugs will give you 2 cups in the measure on the side. [reference pic: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-DCM600B-5-Cup-Coffeemaker/dp/B001NXC5YC/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1436193580&sr=1-4&pebp=1436193578349&perid=0C0XCDME84P3X9SEP98H]

2. Then open the top lid and pour the water into the side, where the thinner opening is. The broad circular one is where you put the filter.

3. Then put the filter in. For the coffee, I usually put double the amount of water. So 2 cups of water = 4 teaspoons of coffee.

4. Close the lid, stick the pot underneath, turn the machine on and wait for the coffee to drip down. Then, I usually turn it off and drink it immediately, but you can leave the pot on if you need to go do something else.

Here's a video if you need the visuals. http://www.folgerscoffee.com/coffee-how-to/how-to-make-coffee/coffee-maker

That's great, thanks anon, you're the best :-)

So, generally speaking (not relevant to fic, I'm just nosy) do you buy coffee in those tins they had on the video, or buy beans and grind them, or is it more personal choice? Foggy is a total coffee snob in my head, I can see him grinding his own beans to make sure they're fresh :)

Re: American style coffee

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
My parents and I get ground Indian coffee which is very bitter because it contains chicory. You can grind coffee beans, but you'd probably want to do it in a coffee grinder to get the best flavor. It's more of a personal choice, though and I can totally see Foggy grinding beans. But if you grind coffee beans, keep in mind that roasted coffee tends to loose its flavor after a while, so he'd want to finish it within the month or something.

Re: American style coffee

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, you'd have to do it in a coffee grinder or the grind would be all wrong. What other ways could you do it??

Re: American style coffee

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
My dad used a spice grinder once and I tried it with a mortar and pestle.

Haha! Really? How did that go? My 4 year old niece likes to whack them with the coffee tamper so all the little bits go flying around the kitchen. That doesn't works so well as a method though!

Re: Research

Very randomly, I googled how much a can of chicken soup costs in US. I didn't actually need to use the information!

Re: American style coffee

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to bad. We use the mortar and pestle all the time, so I'm used to grinding things in it. It didn't get as finely ground as it was supposed to though.

Re: American style coffee

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Just FYI: This way of making coffee is not a solely American concept. :-) We have those things in Germany as well. Although, I personally get my coffee out of a Nespresso machine and don't drink the swill that (usually) comes out of those big coffee makers. (Mainly because I only drink latte or cappuccino.)
