Matt probably hates it, because yeah, witholding something so personal as to "why is my name like that" is depersonalising. A clear stab of power over your mind and body, and I'm sure Matt felt that. But between two wrong choices, this is definitely the better one.
Also, I didn't realise he wouldn't know the colors! Whosh. That's a bit of a relief, finally. Unless someone comments on it, he might never find out. Someone probably will, but – oh well. One can hope. And we ARE here for the angst... 😈
Anyway. Yeah, I thought from the start that he would ask to be "Mike". It makes sense. He doesn't trust Frank with his real name, but he also doesn't want to give up on his identity. He's probably more lucky than most in already having the ability to choose something in-between.
