Re: I think I read that in a fanfic...
(Anonymous) 2016-03-29 03:11 am (UTC)(link)And hey, here in the MCU we finally FINALLY finally got a Matt who actually offered to do things Frank's way, just this once. Saint Matthew fucking Murdock actually offers to give Frank his everything, the one thing that defines him and makes him the biggest pain in the ass Frank will ever know. Frank finally has the chance to get what he wanted so badly that he would have forced it on Matt, but Matt offers it to Frank like he's praying to Christ, with a genuflection and a bowed head and the sign of the cross. Like a lamb to the slaughter. And Frank, oh gdi Frank's breathing changes, his face changes, he looks like he's about to cry, his VOICE, nonnie, his voice. And he doesn't take Matt's light from him. He doesn't. He could have but he doesn't. And now I'M getting all choked up, nonnie. Well shit. I kinda made myself verklempt here, fuck. What the fuck is it about these two beautiful broken bastards, argh.

Re: I think I read that in a fanfic...
(Anonymous) 2016-03-30 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)I'm so happy they went there, you know, because Elektra tried to snuff that light, and Matt was crying so hard but he visibly steeled himself in seconds. A decade later Stick goarded him to kill again, Matt told the old man to fuck off. But Frank... It's circumstances too, Matt had basically driven everyone away at that point. Yet it's telling that it was Frank he chose to confess that desire to.
"What if, just once, I slipped off the edge and I trust you would be there to catch me." Matt crossed himself, he thought he knew what he was asking for -- Frank only saw him as painfully young and naive. Killing to Elektra was a game, one Matt refused to play. Killing to Stick was a crusade, one Matt wouldn't march on. Killing to Frank was exactly what Matt was doing, just one step further... And Frank had to remind him, no, fuck no, it's much worse than that.
No one is more protective of Matt's light than Frank, not even Matt himself. Elektra realized its importance by the end, but it was too late for her. All she saw was his darkness, what made him like her. Frank sees himself, separated by but a thin line. The more he tries to build up that wall, to protect Matt from him, from becoming him, the more determined Matt is to reach out. It positively drives Frank insane, and yet he has to stand there, to make sure Matt never succeeds.
