Because Karen is okay, more than okay, when she's working alone or with strangers. But the moment she interacts with anyone who cares about her, for work or for love/friendship reasons, she becomes this endless pit of needs and overblown emotions. How she reacted to Foggy not reacting like she did and she wanted him to regarding Grotto, while he tried to state why overeacting was legally and rationally illogical and counterproductive? Yeah, there's the whiny voice again.

No, I'm just tired of all the thinly veiled and usually sexist Karen hate. I mean. Calling her whiny, needy, emotional and (from the other anon) annoying?

I know, right? How dare she be invested in things and want help/support from the people she's closest to.

I'm not the other anon, I can only reply for myself. Fyi, I think I called Foggy and Matt whiny and annoying here somewhere during the first season. I'm sorry but I don't see those words as referred to just one sex because I don't think those kind of attitudes and emotions and flaws are exclusive to just women or men. I don't like Karen when she pressures others into doing things they deem reckless or useless just because she wants them too, complaining until things go her way and/or others see things her way, and I hate the same attitude in every character, regardless of gender. My accusations are not "thinly veiled", because they're not veiled at all. You put the veil there, deciding that if I don't like a character you like it had to be for sexist reasons. I adore other female characters, and they happen not to be Karen.

I really hate how 'representation matters' has turned into 'if you don't like this character you must be sexist/racist/fatphobic/Etc' and if a they don't fit into any minority and someone still dislikes them, then it's just 'weird'.

Absolutely agree, but sometimes the dislike IS based in that sort of attitude (consciously or not) and it shows through damn clearly.

All the cast have been very clear about how they see their characters and Charlie said Matt is childishly idealistic, and can be incredibly selfish, and Deb called Karen a pushy, argumentative, bitch. I'd say they know those characters better than any of us.

Look, I love Karen, I think she's amazing and if there were a Karen Page 13 ep mini series I would watch it on repeat for days.

But people can dislike her without being sexist. I don't see anybody jumping out of the woodwork to defend Elektra from similarly legitimate grievances on this meme, is that because you're all secretly a bunch of giant racists? Or is it because you simply don't like her character, since logically no character is going to appeal to every single member of the audience? Hmm.

I have no problem with people disliking Karen, but you honestly don't see what's sexist about calling her overemotional, whiny and needy?

DA, but I think that the anon was not trying to say that people din't also think other characters have those traits, only that with Karen sometimes seems to be different.

Although to be fair, I don't chalk the extreme dislikes of Karen or Elektra up as much to overt sexism as to them getting in the way of slash ships and being thrown under the bus or mischaracterized, which is in its own way a kind of subtle internalized misogyny that happens in fandoms and the world of slash shipping constantly and always going back forever.

But it's this weird, obsessive hate that I don't understand; the kind where people continuously feel the need to bash her whenever the topic of her comes up. I've had to unfollow 3 people on Tumblr yesterday because they're just continuously taking every opportunity they can to take digs at her, and it's like: "If you don't like her, then WHY do you talk about her so much????"

Not if those are actually traits she displays... which she does, to some degree for each. She's not a flaw-free character. Disliking those flaws or the way she specifically displays them doesn't make anon sexist just because it's a female character.

No. I am a woman and have seen other characters like Matt called that. Also if the cap fits do we have to steer away from words that actually describe the situation because it will trigger some poor soul somewhere.

No one is allowed to make a negative comment here. If you do, no matter how justified, you are in a for shit storm of bullying and attacks.
