maybe matt thinks it would be somehow unfair to get together with foggy before they meet their mutual third person. or yeah, maybe they give it a try and just don't balance quite right without karen. so they date random other people while they wait, and then later on matt is guiltily relieved that not actively being with foggy lets him keep his daredevilling somewhat hidden.
and foggy and marci are perfectly aware that they're not each other's soulmates, but hey, people have needs. (then later foggy uses his amazing bedroom skills to blow matt and karen's minds. :DDD )
