To be honest, I actually picture Matt going the other way: it's clear that he's super protective and gentle with kids, plus he point-blank says he's come to realize that Stick was a dick. Matt would therefore try to be as different from Stick as possible, leading him to be overly worried about being too hard on the younger heroes.

Finally, Peter or one of the other kids would be like, "Oh c'mon Matt! How are we supposed to learn to fight crooks when you make us do everything so slowly!"

And Matt huffing in annoyance, "Look, my teacher broke my arm when he taught me that move, so I just want to be sure you're safe."

And Peter being, "BROKE YOUR ARM? How old were you?"

Matt casually shrugging, "I don't know 10 or 11, I guess."

Cue all the kids prepping to hunt down Stick.

imagine stick trying to be his snarky, unaffected self and mocking matt's life choices right to all of their faces because seriously, how sad is this, matty got himself a child army because he was too much of a pussy to fight his own battles. "this is why i ditched him, he's always been useless" etc

and that's the story about how stick got his ass kicked by a bunch of angry, overprotective teenagers

matt tries to be mad at them but knowing what happened and how bad it will forever stick in stick's craw is just the funniest thing he's ever heard. seriously though they're all incredibly grounded (but no tell him the story one more time...)

Matt stuck in the thinking that Stick was a dick but it was fine because it was just happening to HIM and he knows he's trash that deserved it on some level so when they try to talk sense into him they go "well if you could handle it at ten we can handle it now" and he's like NO THATS DIFFERENT, YOU DESERVE BETTER
