Matt and Foggy are city boys

(Anonymous) 2015-06-27 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Matt, Foggy, and Karen have to go out in the country for a few days for whatever reason. Thing is, Matt and Foggy are both born-and-bred city boys and have hardly ever spent much time in rural areas. Foggy finds it creepy and dirty; Matt keeps hearing weird critters in the bushes and nothing smells right.

Karen, meanwhile, grew up out in the country, and tries her very best not to laugh at them.

As someone who has occasionally been very amused by my big-city-born friends' reactions to country/village life I second this.

*SNORTS VERY HARD*

Oh my lord, yes!

As a person who comes from a family that has for generations lived in big cities, I can understand Foggy's position and relate. The countryside is goddamn awful.

Matt having to rely on people to drive him literally EVERYWHERE if he wants to go somewhere because there is no public transportation and the nearest anything is 30 minutes away by car.

Being creeped out by the near silence in the middle of the night. Everyone in town is asleep by midnight or earlier.

The sound of an ambulance or police siren can be heard for MILES and it's so ridiculously startling whenever they hear one.

Everyone knows everyone and they are all suspicious of the "Strangers" in town.

Lack of variety, re: shopping, clothing, restaurants, entertainment ("Haha, no sorry man, the nearest movie theatre is a 2-hour drive away. Everyone usually hangs out at the pub.")

To be fair, Matt and Foggy seem to prefer hanging out at the local pub with a whole bunch of regulars over going to the movies, too. (Or, you know, putting on a mask and beating people up. Depends on whether you are Matt or Foggy, I guess.)

Yes, but there's a difference between doing that because it's your preference and doing it because it's your ONLY available option for entertainment, lol.

A, all of this for the prompt, yes.

B, you've also just successfully reminded me why I am a city girl. :P

i'd also like to see them react to a relatively isolated suburb. for example i live around 30 minutes outside washington DC but you NEED a car to get anywhere and most business is centered around my old high school (which is 20 minutes away) or the shopping mall (20 minutes IN THE OTHER DIRECTION).

i'm so glad to be going to college in the fall. if i have to live here much longer without a driver's license i might actually go postal.

This is a thing I need ...

Also dealing with country hours. 'What do you mean it's not open on Sunday?' You know restaurants, stores, mechanics even liquor stores.

So far out in the country you have to drive ten minutes to get to the nearest GAS STATION, which stocks everything from (very marked up!) eggs to squirrel traps as well, because to go somewhere else you'd have to drive forty-five minutes into town? And when you walk into the gas station you're stared at for five minutes by the guys that seem to sit there all day, presumably talking but they stop when you go in?

I'm remembering why I moved, now.
