Not going to lie, I just filled it so that I could describe the way my make up smells because I love it.

I love this fic so much, SO UNBELIEVABLY MUCH, just - the VOICES and the REACTIONS, it's just so perfect!

But I also have to say that this is one of the only fics that has made me hate all of the Avengers so ridiculously. And I loVE the Avengers! Bruce is literally the only half-way tolerable one of them. And on one hand, I get that this is Matt/Foggy POV and yes, naturally, the Avengers should be exploratory and suspicious toward these two strangers/outsiders, but good god. Do i hate how they're acting and reacting to the situation.

On the other hand, I would probably kill a dozen men to read another hundred chapters of Foggy and Matt think/feeling at one another, and you do such an amazing job capturing their voices and the flow is nice and how they're just so supportive and loving toward one another and how they can both be so incredibly dense about each other's affections and sljkfsdjklsdfjklsdf i just love.

I will say I didn't catch that bit where Matt stumbles when Foggy thinks him leaping over the lounge is hot until the anon above pointed it out, but what an excellent addition ;D I am SO SO looking forward to reading the next part!!

This is super late, but I am the OP and that sounds amazing! I'm 100% alright with this.

Ah yeah well. I know I'm not showing them in their best light here and a lot of it is definitely coloured by Matt/Foggy's POV - I headcanon Matt as either disliking or at least not actively liking the Avengers. And well, everyone here is either so focused on getting to the truth of Matt (Natasha and Tony; in different ways) or following someone else's lead (Clint) that only Bruce is considering that hey, these are people who might not like the way we're acting here...

Foggy's sitting at at home when Matt arrives after patrol.

To be more precise, he's sitting in Matt's home when Matt arrives after patrol.

When did you learn B&E? he wants to ask. "What's wrong?" he asks instead, because yes, he has communication problems, but he's not a total asshole.

"I'm a demon," Foggy says.

"It can't be that bad," Matt says.

"No, Matt, I'm a demon," Foggy insists, heart rate spiking.

Matt sits down next to him. "Okay. Calm down and tell me what you did."

"No, Matthew, I am. Actually. A. Literal. Demon."

Matthew can't see his own deadpan "You've got to be kidding me" face, but he has it on good authority that it's an excellent one. He gives Foggy his "You've got to be kidding me" face.

Foggy sighs, agitated. "Okay. Okay, remember when you had this really big secret and you didn't tell me because you'd never told anyone? And it was totally unbelievable and unreasonable, but I believed you anyway?"

"That was only four months ago," Matt says. "I know I've been hit in the head a few times, but I'm not amnesiac yet."

"Yet," Foggy grumbles. "Well, I know it's unbelievable and unreasonable, but I need you to believe me anyway."

"Do I get to get mad and storm out the door?" Matt asked thoughtfully.

"No."

"Damn it."

Foggy giggles hysterically. "I actually can damn things now, you know."

That gets Matt's attention. He straightens. "Start from the beginning?"

"One beautiful day, Edward Nelson and Rosalinde Sharpe got married—"

"Not that far back."

"No, listen, it actually starts that far back," Foggy pleads. "You know how my birth mom left a long time ago because she was a soulless beast?"

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, well, it's true. Ta-da. Rosalinde's a demon. Dad, too, actually. That's how they met. Mom does deals for people's souls, and dad's a demon of mold and mildew.”

“You’re fucking with me,” Matt deadpans.

“I wish I were,” Foggy replies. “Technically, dad’s a pestilence demon, but—anyway, after Rosalinde left, dad married mom—who’s human—and they decided not to tell me in case I turned out to be too much like Rosalinde.”

“You’re the exact opposite of everything I’ve heard about Rosalinde,” Matt points out. “Minus the lawyer thing.”

“Yeah,” Foggy agrees. “Between that and all the crazy shit going on in New York these days that I’m sure an innocent, uninvolved civilian like yourself knows nothing about, they decided to let me know so I can protect myself.”

“Are you a demon of anything specific?” Matt asks. “Lost keys? Mismatched socks? Reality television? Or are demonic powers hereditary?”

“Sort of the last one,” Foggy sighs. “It’s more like… you know how you can mix juice and champagne and voilà, mimosa? Apparently if you mix pervasive pestilence with devouring human souls, you get curses.”

“Curses.”

“Yep.”

“How bad?”

“Pretty bad.”

Matt hums. “Can you curse the office next door with broken speakers so they stop playing bubblegum pop?”

“Yep.”

“Can you curse my neighbour’s screeching cat to keel over dead?”

“That’s more under the jurisdiction of Vengeance, or maybe Acts of God. I could curse it with chronic laryngitis?”

Matt winces. “That’s neat. But please don’t.”

“I won’t,” Foggy assures. “You’re taking this well.”

“You’re pretty calm yourself,” Matt points out.

“I sort of freaked out earlier,” Foggy admits. “Check the stock market.”

Matt pulls up Yahoo Finance and whistles. “That was you?”

“Yeah. Dad’s trying to get it fixed,” Foggy sighs. “He Summoned Rosalinde for help, but she just laughed.”

“What do you need from me?”

“A hug would be nice.”

“Am I going to get cursed if I touch you?”

“You being able to punch bad guys in the head hasn’t rubbed off on me, so I don’t think my being able to curse someone will rub off on you,” Foggy scowls. “So shut up and hug me.”

Matt does.

(He doesn’t get cursed.)

Just finding this now from the fills post. This was a really fun read with lots of entertaining twists and turns and lots of delicious hurt/comfort. Thanks for writing this!

A week later, Matt abruptly burst into Foggy’s office while Karen was at lunch. “Did you demon your way into my apartment the other night?”

Foggy blinked at him. “Uh. Maybe,” he said in the way that meant “Yes.”

“Oh. Okay.” Matt turned to leave.

“Wait, that’s it?” Foggy spluttered. “You’re not mad?”

“No, of course not. You’re always welcome over,” Matt replied. “It’d just been bothering me, since my door hadn’t smelled like you’d touched it to get in the normal way.”

“You’re creepy.”

“You’re a demon.”

“You have a point,” Foggy admitted.

Three days later, on the way back to the office after an off-site interview with a witness to a case, Foggy got to lay his first deliberate curse.

Matt was in stitches by the time they reached the office. It was even the good sort of stitches rather than the painful, stiff, and bloody variety that he was more used to.

Karen gave them the “You’re both mad” smile she’d perfected within the first six weeks of working for them. “What is it now?”

Foggy gave her a cold smile. “Someone said something mean to Matt. I got even.” He patted Matt on the back as he continued to choke on his giggles.

She knew he could have a temper; everyone did, after all, even if it was slow to burn. But the smile he gave her now was thin, and quick, and cold, and more like what she saw on Matt on a bad day than anything Foggy ever wore.

But Matt straightened, got a grip on himself, and gave Foggy a blindingly bright smile, and Karen’s unease slipped away. Whatever Foggy’d done couldn’t have been that bad if it made Matt so happy.

(Outside, four blocks away, the douchebag who’d snatched Matt’s cane away and told him to echolocate continued poorly parkouring around rubbish bins, fire hydrants, and parked cars, arms flapping like wings as he loudly declared himself Batman. He would find himself doing this anytime he was in the vicinity of a vision-impaired person for years to come.)

Understandably, Matt and Foggy talked about their respective Things often. Matt’s Thing was nicknamed his Nighttime Hobby while Foggy’s Thing (after an evening of binge-watching/describing Supernatural) was the Family Business.

Matt had trouble understanding exactly what Foggy could or couldn’t do, probably because Foggy had trouble explaining it. They more or less got that there was a general pool of powers that Foggy could utilize just by virtue of being a demon, but he could only manage complicated enchantments if they were within his domain or arguably close to it, with vague and undefined repercussions to follow.

(Matt pointed out that Foggy was an excellent debater, and therefore his range of ‘arguably close’ was quite possibly a good deal broader than that of many demons.)

From there on out, Foggy could try, but the results were more likely to be… not what he’d intended. His skills would also get better the more he used them—if he intended to. Not, of course, that he did. Because that would be wrong. Even if Batdouche had been hilarious.

Foggy. Foggy. Fog—

“I GOT IT,” Foggy exclaimed excitedly as soon as Matt picked up the phone. “I'm like a Demon-Born or some other homebrewed equivalent, except Lawful Good. I get race and class bonuses to a bunch of spells and natural Prestidigitation and I can try anything, but I still need to gain XP to get good, I’m always going to be slower or worse with spells outside of my specialization, and there are some schools of magic I won’t be able to ever do!”

“... Did you really call me at two A.M. to compare your life to Dungeons & Dragons?” Matt asked.

“It’s not like you were asleep anyway.”

“Were you spying on me?”

“The technical term is scrying, thank you.”

Matt hung up.

I love this fill. It's awesome and funny and it's extremely in character for them. Ahaha, I love it.

I love how Foggy is using pop culture to try to explain himself his situation since he wasn't brought up as a demon.

I really loved this part. It's so freaking succinct in arguments that clearly lawschool was not wasted on the guys:

"You’re creepy.”

“You’re a demon.”

Seriously. Favorite Person. Ever.
