Don't be afraid! There's Marvel Unlimited, which is basically Netflix for comics, and it has a free month trial going on right now, it has pretty much all the major issues I think. If you want to read Daredevil, jumping in at Vol. 3 (2011-2014) is very accessible after watching the show.

You can also see this Reddit guide to getting started on various other comic series and what all the big cross-over events are: http://www.reddit.com/r/marvel/wiki/faq

O RLY? What formats does Unlimited do? Is it just for iPads?

It does iPhone, iPad, android. Theoretically it has a web version, but I found it to be kinda buggy. It's easier than I though to read on my phone (android) since it has an option to view one panel at a time. Do eeeeet

The web version is the least intuitive image reader I've ever used. Mainly because it goes side to side instead of up and down like most others. So no scrolling to change the page. Plus, issues with that annoying banner. I'm fine with it now, but it was annoying at first. I understand why they did it though, if you're new it probably makes more sense to go from side to side like a book.
