Translation of that scene in episode 3

Where Matt and Foggy are talking about their defence plan and Matt says 'Let's pull section 35.15 of the Penal. Then we'll take our facts and fit them to the CJI and the statute.' and something about insights.

Can someone explain to a completely non-legal (and non-American) person what it all means? I was just rewatching it and I'm curious.

Google tells me that Article 35 - § 35.15 of the New York Penal Code is to do with "Justification; Use of Physical Force in Defense of a Person" (at the time, they were preparing to defend Healy, who killed someone).
