Turning off the "track my phone" feature

(Anonymous) 2015-08-20 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone know if removing a SIM card from a phone will get rid of the ability to track the phone, using a "find my mobile" app or something similar?

Would photos still be accessible to look at if there was no sim card in the phone? (specifically a Samsung phone).

No idea about the first question but photos should definitely still be accessible.

Removing the SIM card alone won't make the phone untrackable, but removing the SIM and reseting the phone to factory will (unless you'd added an anti-theft app that specifically addresses that eventuality).

If a thief wanted to access your pics AND make your phone untraceable, they'd have to download them or forward them before reseting the phone.

Every intelligence person I've read on the subject says the only way to stop cellphone tracking is to take out the battery. The person visiting Osama Bin Laden was doing that to avoid CIA satellite tracking. However, every time he put the battery back in, it would pop up and eventually it created a large enough database to triangulate what was in the *middle*.
