Re: Karen, S2?

There was definitely a hint from her conversations with Ben that her background was shady. They also make it pretty clear that she's new to New York City and doesn't have anyone else except Foggy and Matt - no family, no other friends. And given that she confesses she killed someone already to Wesley, I'm going to go right out and speculate that she was almost definitely involved in drugs, porn or prostitution in her past and came to New York to escape it. So yeah... next season I'm betting that her past comes back to haunt her somehow.

Regarding where they went with her in the comics, I'm really excited that while they are really specific about sticking to the comic book basics (Ben Urich was really well-characterized and brought to life by Vondie Curtis-Hall, and we got Gladiator, Turk Barrett, and even a nod to Stilt-Man!), they also seem completely willing (as most MCU properties are thankfully) to go their own way with the plot if they can come up with something better or more complex. And in Karen and Foggy's case, that's been a great thing.

Foggy, in particular, spent years and years in the comics being a lovable buffoon having no clue that Matt was Daredevil. He certainly wasn't a huge or integral part of the Elektra storyline in the comics. Karen wasn't present for it either. And the fact that they're also bringing in Punisher tells me that they're going somewhere really interesting and different with it vs. what Miller did. I really, really can't wait to see Matt dealing with those two things but with Karen and Foggy there to actually be there for him and know what's going on.

To the person who says that Elektra wasn't really a love interest, I say what comic were you reading? When she reappears in Matt's life he's clearly struggling with the fact that he never, ever got over her and that her disappearance from his life was so sudden. And he clearly still has incredibly strong feelings for her, as evidenced by how absolutely heartbroken he is when he thinks she's dead, and by how often she's able to step back into his life and be there for him without question. It's a very emotional relationship and a great tragic romance, and I certainly don't think that the show is going to prioritize any feelings Karen has for him or that he has for Karen over that. Let's just hope that the actress has better chemistry with Charlie Cox than Deborah Ann Woll does. (I think that may be part of why so many fans are put off by that relationship, to be honest. She has much better chemistry with Elden Henson).

My hope is that we continue to get a love triangle in which Foggy is clearly the right guy for her, and Matt clearly the wrong guy, but she still leans in the direction of Matt even though he clearly is fighting both pissing off his best friend by making a move and his own instincts that she'd be better off without him. I actually thought this dynamic was relatively well-explored in the first season and didn't mind it. It pulled that arc over from DD: Yellow, and did it reasonably well.

oh, i don't disagree that matt and elektra might end up still flirting, and maybe even messing around. what i was trying to say was that a lot of matt's relationships with fellow superheroes tend to fizzle out because they're based on passion and not longevity. one thing a literature teacher of mine said stuck with me because it was so true: romance novels end with the characters getting together, because their relationship lacks the ability to burn for extended periods of time. matt and elektra are that same way: their relationship is built on the mutual desire to be in danger. to be exhilarated. the reason why matt was able to better carry on relationships with women like kirsten mcduffie or karen page in the comics was because the foundation those relationships were built on were more solid than danger or some similar thing.

and i definitely agree with you on karen and foggy dealing with the punisher and elektra fallout. i especially can't wait to see foggy's reactions of "oh my god, the hot greek girl was a freaky ninja TOO?"

i can't help but think foggy's going to end up threatening to throw the book at the punisher.
