On IMDB Charlie is listed as 5'10", same as Deborah, and Elden is listed as 5'9" and during season one I thought Matt and Foggy were the same height, while Karen was a little shorter? Because she wears heels and she's still the same height as Matt and Foggy?

But I'm looking at the new season 2 set pics and Charlie is looking shorter than Elden in almost every picture. I thought maybe the shoes, and it's not a super big deal but as a writer I want to get the sight lines or sizes right and idek anymore! The new pics make it look like Elden is bigger and Charlie's gotten smaller somehow? What the heck is going on with the pictures? Anybody? And is Deborah really 5'10" if she can wear heels and still be the same height as the guys?

Make them whatever height you want, it's okay.

IME fandom gets grumpy if I don't try to get things factually correct. The difference between the three is, ehh, negligible, so maybe I'll just stick to that.

i think charlie being shorter than elden has something to do with how in that one shot where they're on a sidewalk, they're standing on a handicap accessible ramp. charlie's standing on the lowest point of it while elden is standing where the ramp joins the rest of the sidewalk, meaning he's standing on slightly higher ground compared to charlie.

a lot of this has to do with looking at comparative heights while standing on certain raised surfaces, because if the surface is uneven it may cause a weird change in their height just by eyeballing them. when charlie and elden are standing on even ground, elden is clearly at least an inch shorter.

Yes, there does seem to be a small incline there. I'm a little more ?????? about the vid of filming where C&E are walking side by side and in that whole thing Charlie just looks markedly shorter. This isn't crit on Charlie's height, I'm not slamming him, I think he's absolutely delicious, I just felt like I was missing something. Maybe the sidewalk is inclined as well? Or maybe it's the angle of the vid? I was just very confused.

There are filming tricks that can make people look different heights than they are. It's also common to use such tricks to make sure that your female lead doesn't look taller than your male lead, because that's seen as ~undesirable. I wouldn't be surprised if they did something to make sure that Karen didn't look taller than Matt.

Of course, they could achieve the same thing by just not having Karen wear high heels, but US tv is pretty obsessed with putting all women in high heels.

AHHHH, that's got to be it, nonnie! I knew about the tricks they used for filming RDJ alongside G Paltrow and I assume maybe they had Deborah kick off her heels for the scenes where she's face to face with Charlie or something. The differences between Charlie and Elden are almost nonexistent, except for the vid of season 2 filming where the height diff looks bigger, harder to ignore.

I roll my eyes at some of the film posters where the principle actor is usually the tallest regardless of actual height, it's the Tom Cruise effect, but I think I can just try to handwave some of the sightline references as much as possible in fic. Unless we really are going to see some change in S2 but you're prob right wrt the cameras and filming to equalize things.

Yes, I see what you mean. I'm a couple of inches shorter than Deborah but I love very tall heels (putting me closer to 6') and I can always tell when I make people uncomfortable with my height and catch myself doing the default slouch when I get that vibe. Maybe that's what's going on with her, I'm not sure. I do know Elden and Charlie have a tendency to slouch as well, Charlie in particular who also stands hipshot sometimes (fandom calls it his supermodel pose) unless he's in attack stance. But thank you for the link, nonnie, I think I'm just going to swallow any differences and just write them as vaguely as possible. :)

totally different anon here but just wanted to interject. i do the slouch-to-avoid-making-people-uncomfortable thing too!! i'm 5"10 but am occasionally guilty of wearing a couple-inch flatform (i cannot walk in heels, honestly i look like a newborn deer). the slouch is pretty much my default though. grew up as the tallest in class + all my female friends have been 5"5 and under, i always feel like i stick out so slouching is the most natural thing for me.

always wondered if other people did it too, cool to know they do! :-)

I feel like Deborah must hear from photogs and directors all the time to not wear heels unless her [male] costars are like 6'. She looks smaller on film, which is weird, because every time I see her alongside her costars, she seems like she's not so tiny after all (which is awesome):

Speaking of tiny muffins, I wonder if Charlie and Elden have to deal with the other side of the coin, not being very tall guys? Hollywood expectations and all that. I should be glad for Robert Downey, Jr for existing. But I did come across this pic this weekend and it startled me. This whole time I thought the camera angles in Daredevil were making Wilson Fisk look huge. No, he's actually that big, and then some. LOOK AT THE SIZE OF HIS HANDS. That is some ace casting right there:
