Maybe what he meant wasn't anything to do with Stick's blindness not being the same as his own, and more to do with Stick himself not being like him. Sort of a way of putting some kind of distance between them, not making them out to be the same because Stick is an asshole and Matt isn't...

That would be a slightly odd phrasing but it would at least make more sense then my first interpretation...
Or I guess it could have been a rather specific 'did not get his superpowers as side-effect of a traumatic accident'.

It would be a totally odd way to phrase it, but maybe he heard himself saying the words 'like me' in relation to Stick and just thought "no no NO!!" And had to backtrack on what he had said. :)
