I haven't read the fic(s) in question (not big on AUs), but, well, 12k a week is definitely possible if you do little else than writing. I've been working on a fic for a prompt here, which I started on June 26. It's now July 1, and I'm just over the 11k mark.

That said, I've been working on this story pretty much non-stop in my spare time, and sometimes also at work (which of course I *so* shouldn't be doing, for a multitude of reasons). I have a love/hate relationship with those fics that eat your brain and take over all of your rational thinking capabilities.

Of course that's mostly just raw writing without double-checking, editing or beta-reading. I'm usually pretty meticulous about double-checking. And triple-checking. And this isn't how I usually write, I'm a lot slower, normally. (Also seeing how I'm not a native speaker.)

But anyway, yeah, if people can touch-type at a decent speed, and if the creative juices are flowing, I guess 12k a week isn't all that impossible, but probably not for an extended period of time.
