It's actually unusual for him to be a redhead in the comics - there aren't a lot of them.

Aren't there a lot of redheads in Marvel comics? Jean Grey (and Madelyne Pryor, Rachel Grey, and Hope Summers), Mary Jane Watson, Natasha, Volstagg, Banshee, Mystique, Juggernaut, Harry and Norman Osborne, Cletus Kasady (the guy who became Carnage), Lyra, Hellcat, Medusa, Firestar, Lorelei, Eric O'Grady, Red Sonja...
