as an australian who has very little knowledge regarding new york/america in general (geographically speaking) i never ever would have guessed that hell's kitchen was a real place. never thought to google it since i honestly believed it was fictional, oops. haven't written any fic yet but thanks for saving me from a potential disaster!!

Haha, glad to help. FWIW, Hell's Kitchen is sometimes also called "Midtown West." Businesses pushed to rename it "Clinton" in the 60s, but it never stuck. The name used to reflect the rough reality of the place, but now its use is more ~fun and edgy~.

one of the maps my roommate has in our kitchen says 'clinton' instead of 'hell's kitchen' lol

but tbh even those 'you are here' nyc maps that they have by like parks say hell's kitchen, so p much everyone's given up on the clinton thing (it helps that hk got a reputation for rly good restaurants, so ppl largely associate the name with food lol)

but yeah it's p much nothing like marvel!hell's kitchen irl (like... it's somewhere i will probably never afford to live, tho i know a couple phd students who live there, so who knows)
