and, like, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, you major in - whatever, justice or legal aid or english or whatever, in your first four years of college, and that's your bachelor's degree, AND THEN you go on to law school, which is your postgraduate education & makes you a lawyer, as long as you pass all the tests.
depending on where you're from/where you went, i've heard "all post-high school years" described as "college," OR everything up to your bachelor's is college, and everything after that is your post-grad. which adds to the confusion, because: did matt & foggy meet in law school in their early twenties? did they meet in college, as teeny babies?
HOW OLD ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO BE, anyways, i've been guessing late twenties-early-thirties but. hm. ok, bachelor's by 22/23-ish if they're motivated and on schedule, three years of law school, internships @ actual law firm, practicing law independently for "about seven hours" in the pilot: check my fake math, kinkmeme.
did they ever give any indication of how long the internship was? LIke it could have been a summer internship, or something they did parallel to their law degree (idk that's a thing we do in australia sometimes idk about usa)
(i knwo the actors are often older than characters but for reference Cox is 32 and Elden is 37)
so bachelors is done by 22 and they're 25 by the time they finish law school. Lets assume the internship was short term, summer internship to a year maybe? Factor in a couple of months of misc. things in between (looking at offices, part time work, etc etc)
I mean I would comfortably say they're 27 at least? Pushing into early 30's if the internship went longer or there were gap years involved.
i forgot to mention that there is a strong possibility that Foggy and/or Matt did not go straight into law school or straight into college. they may have chosen to take part time jobs for a bit and save some money (or maybe Foggy needed to help his family out a bit) + possible gap years and such.
so that could add a couple more years to the ages if you wanted to and would be a good way for authors to justify an older age
Also, Matt could have very reasonably graduated high school a couple of years late. I imagine he missed quite a lot of school after the accident, and later after Jack died, when his senses really kicked into overdrive.
Well, in the flash-back in episode 10 when they first meet and Foggy is trying to get onto the Punjabi course the webpage is titled "Fall 2010", so I assume that's when they start law school. If that comes after a Bachelor, and that Bachelor takes 4 years (this is all from Wikipedia as I don't know the US university system), then they would be 22ish in 2010, yes? That means they were born around 1988.
Of course the actors are both older than that, but that's not uncommon.
So with law school taking 3 years (Wikipedia again) and assuming the show is set about now, that gives them a year and a half for the internship? Which seems a bit long but I know literally nothing about law internships, so maybe that's common.
Guys, the writers have said that Foggy and Matt are supposed to be 29-30. Matt should be 30 because he was blinded when he was 9, then meets Stick a year later, and then Stick ditches him and he's 10 when he goes to the orphanage. When Stick comes back and he puts Matt in that hold and Matty breaks away, he says, 'Took you 20 years to figure out how to get out of that.' Maths, they work!

(Anonymous) 2015-05-22 07:25 am (UTC)(link)in the US, you need your undergraduate degree, which we call a bachelor's. That's four years, give or take, after high school.
(high school ends in 12th grade: usually people graduate ~18 ish~)
AFTER that, you go to law school, which Wikipedia tells me usually takes about three years.
(clawlegge should in fact be the name, btw)
