Sorry for posting this on the main -- the ETA with the discussion post flew right over my head (mostly because I've been checking this thing super late at night).
But yeah the abridged version -- I am not in fandom, haven't been in years. Are there any resources for finding betas for either anonymous memes or generally for Daredevil fandom, because one fill I've been avoiding for a while is because it's a big-bang sized monstrosity and I know my writing -- for anything over 5k words, I need a beta. I'd love some tips on finding resources, anons, if you know of anything for this aged old-school estranged fandom hag.
What's the prompt you're interested in writing the long story for? idk about resources but I'm a person with fairly good grammar/spelling skills who has a lot of time on her hands currently (starting now, til Sept) and I'd be interested in offering, depending on the story. I've betaed a long of longfic in the XMFC fandom a few years ago, although I was rarely the only beta for those stories.
The Mirrorverse!AU one is the big one -- I also filled a Karen as a Red Room agent with a small, vignette-style fill and was considering fleshing that out into a full rework.
For the Mirrorverse!AU one, it's probably going to be an actual episodic rework of the series if I do do it, which, I'm hoping to limit myself to roughly 5k an episode, but there's 13 episodes, so.
Again, even if neither of these is up your alley, thanks so much for even being willing to offer.
yoooooooo, that sounds AWESOME. This is totally my thing, i have an astronomical narrative boner for mirrorverse aus.. if you want, hmu at etirabys at gmail dot com, and if you want to check my fic to see if i am at a level where i can in any way give you help, my ao3 is halcedry.
I don't know if you're interested in having more than one person look at your work? but man, that sounds like such a neat idea? my email's bleachittwice @ gmail.com, and like the other nonymous said, my ao3 is ahavaa, so you can get an idea if you think i'd be helpful?
I've been out of fandom for a long time as well; by which I mean I still read fic occasionally but haven't written in a few years until I started toodling around with some fills here. I've seen a few people expressing something similar. There's something about DD that pulls fic writers out of retirement lol.
As for your question, kinkmemes in general tend to be un-beta'd as far as my understanding goes. The author does their own editing and posts it. As a result, the quality kind of varies, typos get missed, but on the other hand, quicker fills keep the meme more lively. Daredevil (netflix version, at least) is a new fandom so I doubt anything is really in place for betas. We could make it happen, though?
I know, for real, DD is the crack that brings all the kids back to the yard.
I mean, I do know they're generally unbeta'd. It's kind of embarrassing to me to even ask, since I feel like I'm breaking some unspoken rule. First time I've ever even felt the need to ask because I don't generally flesh stuff out to grand proportions. Or if I'd wanted to, like... back when I was in anime fandom, I had a community I could ask. And normally, I'm not planning on filling anything for over 5k -- there was one back on the Star Trek kinkmeme for the first reboot movie that was 8k and that was pushing it for me.
The only reason I'm reaching out now is because I'm probably going to deanon for this, since it's a Mirrorverse!AU where the plan is to do an episodic rework at a pace of about 5kish an episode (for 13 episodes, so yeah).
No worries, I don't blame you, particularly with the length you're looking at. I've got one that is shaping up to be way, way too long for a kinkmeme fill. I have handled it but, uh, ignoring it for a few days. That prompt and your ideas for the fill are really interesting, hopefully you can find someone to help you out!
