Just what the title says. This is the first kinkmeme I regularly visit, so I'm curious what other kinkmemes be like.

I've never actively participated in others, for the simple fact that most of them are what the name suggests, a KINK meme. Which means most or even all prompts are actually kinky in some form or other. Lots of explicit stuff, sex pollen, MPREG, non-con, etc. Which isn't my thing, so usually I stay away. I'm extremely happy and grateful that this one is open for everything, and I hope it stays that way forever!

Huh, really? I'd have said, even here like...maybe 80% of our prompts here are about sex in one form or another, and of that...maybe 70% being kinky in some nature and 30% vanilla fluff sex? And in other memes this is far more extreme?

Yeah, but 20% is still a ton higher than 0%. We've got a second "Matt gets a pet" prompt going right now, in fact. And those of us who want to fill a non-sex-related prompt still have plenty of options.

For the record, I lurked Avemgerkink a bit but found it super confusing and by te point I discovered it, people had kind of abandoned it. This is my first real kink meme and I adore it here. Everyone's so nice and supportive, the mod knows when to put her foot down and is consistent, and the fic has been great.

Avengerkink got really weird in terms of prompts. Like you'd get a few decent ones then really, really, really weird ones, not just sexual weird but just weird. The Thor kinkmeme (norsekink) is very inactive but still going. I also attended that one but left after it got way too incesty for my tastes (as in Thor/Loki, still adopted brothers or even biological half brothers, not Loki was raised in Jotunheim. I mean damn it. Adoption doesn't suddenly make someone not your family member, if you found out your dad wasn't your biological father you would not be okay with him trying to fuck you.)

i love love love that this kinkmeme isn't strictly kink. i'm a big fan of foggy/matt but i'm not interested in sexual content @ all + my one true love is angst. so there's not that much content for me here, a kinkmeme's core demo is not the kink-less and i totally dig that. i'm just super glad that it's alright for it all to share a space, this is a fantastic meme and i love the amount of discussion it generates. i love this bar.

REALLY depends on the fandom. For starters, this is the nicest kink meme I have ever been on (outside of a few brief small fandom prompt memes). People generally are nice about what other people write because there is a nice culture of appreciation rather than a culture of entitlement I have seen in other fandoms. Something I have seen here that is not entirely common is that there is a blanket ban on unanon prompting and filling. Other memes don't have this rule most of the time. Some memes enforce rules really strongly while others are choose not to warn.

This meme seems really open to the long conversations that sometimes spring up from a prompt. I've been on other memes where that's against the rules.

Also, I've been on memes where people were openly hostile to each other, and the mod didn't do anything about it because "free speech" (wtf?)

I think it comes from being such a small/new fandom, tbh. And also from having such an excellent mod.

I haven't experienced them personally, but I've heard stories from friends about kink memes where:

If you rec'd a fic instead of filling, you'd be piled on and attacked

If you went off-topic from the prompt, you'd be piled on and attacked

If you accidentally hijacked the prompt, you'd be piled on and attacked

If you offered suggestions for what you'd like to see and weren't the OP, you'd be piled on and attacked

So basically, you could show up and say "Seconded" or "+1" or fill the prompt, but the community hated everyone else.

That's truly awful, and can I just say how much I love that it seems like we can resolve any differences we have here with everyone understanding that people ultimately mean well. It's nice that someone can say "Oh, thanks for the rec but I have read that already" and leave it at that, or that if somebody has a different idea about a prompt, the OP is usually fine saying "Not for me, thanks. But if someone fills it that way, I'm sure others will love it!" The level of respect around here has been astonishing and has many times restored my faith in fandom when other things are going on.

This is the nicest Kinkmeme I'm on, the Force Awakens kinkmeme is full of mean wankers, drove a few people away (judging by their discussion post) and any other kinkmeme I've been on is dead or dying....

It's very nice to have a place to come back to when other fandom areas are getting you down and be like "This is what it's supposed to be like!" and take a deep breath.
