AYRT I know. He also was homeless during the tail end of Nocenti's and the beginning of Chichester's run but this was basically all connected to how much he was knocked down a peg during Born Again until he got his legal license back :P Waid's run made a parallel in the beginning where Matt lost his source of income bc Foggy didn't want to be partners anymore but was not destitute this time due to having his debts paid off and everyone wanting to give him favors.
Giving that all up as he apparently has would lead him to be financially vulnerable for p. much the first time since the nineties (unless he was destitute during Shadowland/Andy Diggle's run - I've read almost all of vol 2 but I'm not quite finished). Which is a huge decision for Matt to make because it means he would rather be financially and socially vulnerable rather than have people know that he and Daredevil are the same person. I have no idea why Matt would choose to do that to himself but we're only on issue one and I'm sure we'll find out.
No, definitely not destitute during Shadowlands - he had access to all of the Hand's funds then - but he was pretty much a vagrant in the 4-part miniseries that made him decide to be Daredevil again.
I sort of wonder if in a twisted way he partly did it for Foggy, to reverse Foggy's disbarring and give him his life back without the complications of getting himself legally declared alive again etc.
Having now read Daredevil: Reborn I make the case that this falls under 'extraneous circumstances where Matt would give up his financial stability that he has worked hard for.'
