A note on comics: I personally read a billion comics at the same time. Don't be afraid to skip around or to come back later to a storyline you were reading or to start wherever the hell you want in any given volume (though starting with a certain writer in mind is wise). Marvel is very much like a soap opera that only updates monthly and in volume 2 onward they assume you don't remember everything that happened in the last issue or several issues and they will sum it up for you at the beginning.
In volume 1, they won't do that but the plots are pretty simple and easy to follow and they will remind you in dialog what is going on. Comics also assume that many people may be picking up something in the middle of a run for the first time and they want to be accessible to new readers. Remember that usually the main audience for comics is often children and teens and writers want to make it accessible for them :)
Read Daredevil volume 2 first. It is the closest in tone to the show. Skip Daredevil volume 2 1-25 if you love yourself. If you want to know what happens, just read his character bio on the Marvel 616 wiki. It tells you all you need to know. Then read the entirety of Bendis's run. It is SO good.
Brubaker's run is great too although warning that he made Matt's wife go insane for the purposes of manpain so if you're sensitive to that I would say stop after he gets out of jail. If you like weird B-movie shit then read Shadowland. If not, skip to Waid's run and read all of it. Volume 4 is a particular favorite of mine but you shouldn't start there.
You should read Born Again because it's really the start of Matt's enormous mental health problems which are pretty integral to his character. Read it early into your comics adventures but don't read it first. Feel free to read the rest of Miller's run whenever you want.
Honestly, don't listen to everyone telling you that Miller's run is the be all end all. The entirety of Ann Nocenti's run (the woman who was after Frank Miller) is not on Marvel Unlimited but you should read what is there. Her stories are wonderful - sometimes they are a little off the wall but in a really beautiful way. She is actually pretty notable for all of her work in comics and paved the way for a lot of female writers. I am a little bummed out that not all of her work is on Unlimited because I had to track it down on a um site that was't entirely legal but it was so worth it. Please read her run - not first, but please read it. A LOT of people assume that post-Frank Miller there is nothing good until Bendis takes over but this is absolutely untrue. I also recommend David Chichester's 'Last Rites' if you can get your hands on it. Hit me up if you want to find these - I am notlikeabird@gmail.com and I will give you a dropbox link.
Re: oh god help me where do i start with the comics
Anon the OP responded to above - I also have a dropbox link for stuff that doesn't happen to be on MU that's DD related (even though everything I listed is).
This includes issues #1-6 of Spider-Gwen that feature Matt Murderdock, Powerless (a series that features no superpowers and shows Matt taking on Fisk while just being an unpowered blind lawyer - Issues 1-5 are on MU but issue 6 is not, which makes no sense and angers me!) and the Daredevil: Road Warrior that was part of Mark Waid's run in between Vol. 3 and 4.
He also makes appearances in a couple of the recent Secret Wars AU spin-offs (Inferno is one, I believe) and I have those too.
Just ask! - I'm enthusiasmgirl.tumblr.com

SA - Also, if you want to seek out AU Matt Murdock's in Marvel comics (because comics are fanfiction with pretty, pretty fan art, basically), this may be RTYI:
DA: Can I ask for links to those too? I'm hopelessly trying to catch up on DD and it's not easy even without scrambling to find those comics not on MU.
