Ooooh... I could go on and on about this topic, but I won't.
I will just give you a list of a few things:
For when I want inspiration via lyrics for writing (AKA the non-instrumental stuff I've been super digging lately):
- Ezra Furman (who I am obsessed with) - St. Vincent - Rubblebucket - Sylvan Esso - Dan Deacon - Alvvays - YACHT
For when I'm actually writing or want to set a particular mood for myself (AKA instrumental stuff):
- The Daredevil soundtrack (Duh... it's so good) - The Sense8 soundtrack - Brian Tyler's stuff for Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 - Anything by Clint Mansell, but particularly the Moon soundtrack - The Truman Show soundtrack (It's mostly Philip Glass and it's super underrated) - Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy soundtrack - The Inception soundtrack - The modern Battlestar Galactica soundtracks (there are a few) - The Cloud Atlas
I wouldn't recommend Murray Gold's work on Doctor Who or other amazing soundtracks to things like LotR or Harry Potter, even though I think they are amazing, only because to me they don't really set a good Daredevil-y mood. They have more of a fantasy world "going on a grand adventure!" vibe vs. being a little more minimalist, darker, or intense.
