So I have a query -

Since they don't really fit into the (mostly dead) Avengers kink meme can the other Defenders set up shop around here? I mean this in the nicest way but Daredevil has going for it that it has a really really pretty brooding white boy at the head of the show with an extensive canon behind him wheras Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have a lot against them out of the starting gate both because they are from marginalized groups and because their canon is a bit smaller (or a lot in Jessica's case). And this meme already seems to have people who are into the other street level heroes anyway and are crossing them over even though they haven't been in the MCU yet.

If that seems like stretching the meme thin that's fine. I just think it would be logical for the Defenders side of the fandom to stick together in some way.

I was thinking about exactly this last night. I'd really like it if the meme could be extended when the other shows start coming out (especially because it seems that shows with female leads rarely have very active kinkmemes, unless there's an obvious m/m pairing). It also means that this meme will have a lot of fuel, which is great, because I think we have a lot of fun over here...I guess it just depends what other people/the mod think.

This is what I mean too. I want the meme to stay alive and I think having more fuel can only keep it alive!

It may be that people want to take a wait and see approach to Jessica Jones before opening that up here, but you know that there are people who are going to binge the show in two days and immediately start writing fic, so it's worth thinking about early. And they've already said it will crossover with Daredevil in some way anyway.

AYRT I know for me that I'm going to binge watch the hell out of Jessica Jones and I will want fic right away so I will want a meme early if there is going to be one. Even if the show isn't as good as it looks I think there will still be people who want to write for it and include the other Defenders.

There is an MCU kink meme. It's called Avengerkink, it's full of Stucky and Iron Man fic, and it's pretty dead. That's really, at least imho, a whole other kettle of fish.

I think limiting this to Defenders would basically include any MCU Netflix characters (or on the Comics prompt, their comic equivalents) including Hellcat, Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, etc.

This is how I would envision it, at least, and it makes sense to me because the idea of the Defenders series down the road is that they will all crossover with Daredevil anyway. So you're right that it will likely happen regardless. We may as well choose to be inclusive of it now.

The MCU kink meme is dead for the most part and the community from what I have heard wasn't even close to being as nice as it is here. Furthermore, I think the MCU films are great but my interest in reading fanfiction about any of those characters is nil. I am much more interested in the lives of the street level heroes and while everyone is part of the MCU I think the Defenders are intentionally clumped into their own thing separate from the MCU at large. I acknowledge that Thor is part of this universe but also I don't care.

I think Agents of Shield and Agent Carter can tie more into the MCU kink meme if they really wanted to because they are very closely tied to the characters from the films. The Defenders are more tied to each other.

I'm not the mod but iirc the mod started this km because of their love for Netflix DD which may or may not include the rest of the Defenders. Maybe it would be best to allow someone else who loves Jessica or Luke or Danny to take up the mantle (and alllll the work involved) of their respective kinkmemes and just associate them with Matt's corner of the world here?

Or maybe allow other co-mods here to run various character sections? IDEK I'm just saying... our mod is the best mod, okay? And I don't want to see our mod beset and overwhelmed by expectations that fans of the Defenders may want to dogpile onto what's already been established here. Just think of all the extra work involved, please!

If you check the mod post, I did poke them about it since you're right that it's ultimately up to them.

Although I can't imagine that it would be much more work at the height of each series debut than it was when this meme started because of how they're staggered. I could be wrong though.

See I worry that without including the other Defenders a) they might not get their own Kink Meme and b) this one may dry up before season 2.

If this meme ever gets too big for our one mod to handle (because she may be amazing, but she's also a human with a non-Daredevil related life, I'm assuming), I volunteer as tribute to come on and help out, even if it means getting eaten alive by you people. (I'm kidding since you're all pretty awesome)

I'm sure others would volunteer too so we can keep this place as great as it has been.

I'm not into anything Marvel except Daredevil, but I'm happy with this if you guys don't have any other meme to go to. :D

Matt may be guilty of being a really really pretty white boy at the head of a show, true, and while I'm reallllllly looking forward to Jessica, I'm hoping like hell that they don't make Luke out to be the angry black man they made him into in the comics for so long. I don't know if Marvel continued trying to cash that check after the 90's when I checked out, but I am praying the series makes him out to be something better than my experience with him. :C

I'm looking forward to Jessica Jones, even as not-a-comics person. I'd suggest, though, that there be a separate prompt post at first, so that people who can't marathon the series don't get spoiled. The first DD prompt post took a month to reach the comment limit, which would give people plenty of time.

If there are a lot of people into it then I think you guys should really start your own all-Defenders kink meme. It's not like there's a limit on how many kink memes are allowed to exist at once.

My concern is that they won't be able to get off of the ground without Daredevil.

nayrt but I really don't think that's going to be a problem. Most of fandom didn't know who daredevil was before Netflix but they've eaten him alive. Jessica Jones looks like they're going to capitalize on what made DD so good and maybe improve on it. What is it about the other defenders that makes you think they won't have a successful fan base?

Honestly, my concern is actually that the Daredevil parts of the meme will be overshadowed by all the other Defenders stuff.

I agree with this tbh, I have no interest in the other Defenders. But if people really want it here at least do like with the comics and make it a separate post.

Another reason to consider this proposal just has to do with the realities of how much crossover fic there will be.

There's a reason that, despite the huge popularity of Thor, Iron Man and Cap individually, fandom chose to go with Avengerkink and they don't each really have their own kink memes. It's because if they didn't do that, fans of each would miss out on amazing crossover stories constantly. Nobody wants to have to duplicate a fantastic Stony fic or Frostiron fic in a half-dozen different memes so that everyone who might like it sees it. You only have to look at AO3 tags and see how many Stony fics that Tony is in are only labelled as "Captain America" or the other way around to realize the value in keeping them all in one place. Same thing goes for great crossover prompts that people want filled. You want as many eyeballs on them as possible so that the right person fills them, regardless of which fandom they're in.

They've already said that Claire is appearing in all of the Defenders shows. And hinted that a major DD character may appear in Jessica Jones. Do you want to miss out on awesome DD-related stories or stories about Claire because you don't check the other three memes?

And what happens when Defenders comes out? That becomes a fourth meme then that everyone from here has to migrate over to, since Matt will be HUGE in that!

And yes, there's no cap on the number of kink memes that can exist. But there is a cap on the number of people who want to go to a half-dozen kink memes when they love this one, even if the other content is stuff they'd like. So I feel like you'd be spreading the fandom too thin and setting each kinkmeme (including this one) up to fail down the road.

I also know that I could go set up a Defenders meme tomorrow. But DD is a Defender! So what does that mean for Daredevil fans? Technically all of the fic here is Defenders fic already. If the DD fans don't go to a Defenders kink meme, it will either completely fail early on because people will be confused as hell, everyone will eventually abandon this kink meme because they think that the Defenders meme is where DD fic now goes (which I don't think anyone here wants) or it will completely fail and everyone will just keep posting Defenders fic here. Why make fans have to choose between two places for DD fic?

I know some people don't want to see this meme change, but it doesn't have to. It can be the same place it's been from the beginning, only just including new characters who are part of it's universe anyway only in an extended way. The plan on Marvel and Netflix's part is for them to be too intertwined for us not to.

100% agree. There are definitely going to be crossover pairings out the wazoo eventually and it's shortsighted to think that fandom will want to prompt their crossover pairings on more than one kink meme. Someone else will make a Defenders inclusive kink meme if we don't and eventually people are going to migrate en masse from here to there. And that new kink meme might suck - avengerkink is mainly dead because its mods were too controlling and the community was too unpleasant for people to want to stay there, not out of lack of ideas. Then we won't have anything and it will be a clusterfuck. And I personally don't want a community clusterfuck - this is my only fandom space right now and I like it a lot.
