I've got a good rule: don't make a person feel like they've asked a stupid question. Assume there's no such thing.
I've even seen it happen here on the Discussion Post - someone asks a question about an interpretation of the show's plot or a legal matter or geographical location and someone jumps in to tell them that they're completely wrong in their belief or how they framed their question, making them feel like a dick (often with zero context regarding why the person is asking or the fic they're writing).
It's not cool and it makes otherwise fine people feel too intimidated to post or do anything but lurk.
Shaming anyone for anything, really, is always a bad move.
