...what I love most about everyone in this bar/meme is how quickly we shift gears from "RIDICULOUS" to "understated and terrible" to "everyone is bleeding, why" to "cuddletimes now"
i mean, y'all are just god's treasures, is what i'm trying to say.
Well that doesn't look exploitable at all. If repositioned on a different background, they wod totally not fit together to be the Fucking In An Alleyway Diorama. Not at all. Who would think of that.
It should be pointed out that Frank Castle has met Matt's mother, Sister Maggie, and she was emotionally supportive when he needed it most. Yes, it's alluded that she knows exactly who Frank is to Matt, too. Because the Punisher should slow down long enough to show that the guy who hates Matt sooooo much (allegedly) should be shown to have some ties to Matt's mother like a proper boyfriend, right? Pretty sure many of the writers have been flying the Frank/Matt flag for years.
(As for Matt's mother, the story is that she had awful postpartum and tried to hurt/kill Matty when he was a baby. Jack saved/protected Matt, and Matt's mother left them and went to stay at a convent and never came back. Yes, the convent of Saint Agnes, Order of Mercy, where Matt ends up later. The same Saint Agnes we see in the MCU. The same Saint Agnes Frank is visiting in the screenshot below.)
Frank is a really complicated character, but this is a stock example of the Frank/Matt relationship. FYI Frank was flirting with the woman in prior panels, at least until she almost kills DD, and then Frank is pissed and in one heartbeat decides she's worthless. Because Frank can tell everybody who will listen that he and Matt hate each other, and Frank can break Matt's bones and shoot him with tranqs and render him helpless or tie him up or threaten to kill him (all the damn time), but the second somebody else goes after Matt? Frank's not having that.
And then Frank is worried about Matt. Because blind guy taking out a squad on an airborne helo? If Matt succeeds (which he will), who is left to fly it?
i'm sorry you're having a tough time, i hope things get better for you real soon!!
i've been a little down for a while so this meme/the daredevil fandom in general has been a godsend. it feels like such a positive place + super friendly. i get pretty anxious about online interactions too, so as annoying as the anonymity aspect can be it makes it less intimidating. everyone here is so helpful + inclusive, no one ever makes you feel inferior or like an idiot for not knowing things, or getting something wrong, it's a really refreshing and fun gang to be a part of. i think i might be a little in love with all of you.
okay, so: I've run into fics where they describe Matt's weapon of choice as a billy club (or clubs), and while I don't really mind per se, I sort of didn't see his iconic billy club in sight? I think they're escrima sticks--at least, that's how I've been referring to them in my fic.
settle this debate for me, you guys: are they called billy clubs or escrima sticks?
dildos of justice, oh my god, now I'm never going to get the mental image out of my head
I figured as much! they're a bit shorter than I remember escrima sticks being (sort of--I was in a tap dance class, we danced at the same time there was a class in arnis--which is apparently where escrima sticks are used--was going on, and they were a bit longer than what Matt uses), though.
In my ongoing quest to have all my loved ones watch Daredevil because I know they'll all adore it, I have now watched Season 1 a number of times through with a number of different people. Now, I am blessed with a very engaged family who vocalise what they're thinking as the show happens ("Ooh, I think so-and-so is going to die", "That's going to be important later isn't it?", etc). And it's been FASCINATING knowing what's going to happen and listening to others theorise about what THEY think is going to happen.
A short run down for most/all my family members: they ALL thought Wesley was somehow playing everyone off against one another and would eventually betray Fisk, most thought Karen would die after she visited Mrs Vistain (that fake-out nightmare got a lot of people) but didn't expect Ben's death until Fisk was in the living room with him, EVERYONE thought Fisk would end up in a showdown with Matt and somehow end up dying but not by Matt's hand, and up until his betrayal, most thought Leland was the only sensible one of the 'criminal elements'.
So I'm interested, anons. What things did you expect to happen that didn't? What surprised you?
That's pretty surprising! I eneded up watching the show in one or two days (while I was visiting a friend in New York City, no less) so I didn't do a lot of theorizing. I thought Foggy and Karen were gonna end up together.
The actress who plays Vanessa looked like the actress who played Daniel's (the dude who Karen was framed for murdering) wife, so I thought they were the same character for a bit. I was like "woah, now Fisk is trying to seduce the widow of someone he had killed? That's fucked up."
I definitely didn't see Fisk's criminal empire falling around him due to the actions of other criminals, but I really dug it. It was kind of like the ending of Macbeth.

My family and I thought the same thing. We also marathoned it over a few days, and it took us a couple episodes to realize they were different characters.
I have always assumed that burner phones are just a weird TV trope with no bearing in reality? Like, Veronica Mars goes through them like a madwoman and Foggy's assumption that Matt just has one because why not kind of fits that.
Like are these cell phones made of tin foil or chocolate or something? Who in their right mind in the real world has that kind of money or resources that they can just have a spare cell phone on hand like that? You have to buy the phone plus there are activation fees and a pre-paid card to even get the phone to work!
But what kind of weird sex stuff must Foggy assume Matt is into? Like why wouldn't Matt give a girl he likes an actual phone number? And why is Foggy so cool with that?
"Oh, I see Matt's got a burner phone. Must be for all those prostitutes that he hires who he wouldn't want to know his real name, I guess?" It's strange.
Omg I LOVE the idea of Wesley being manipulative like that, that would've been awesome!! It definitely didn't occur to me though. The only things I can think of was that I thought foggy/Karen would be close to getting together by the end of the series (if not already together/at least kissed or smth) and that I didn't expect Fisk to be caught in the end. I was sure he'd escape.
