You do, and I saw that, but it wasn't your last word on the subject, and some of the things you said that were time stamped later still came off as judging writers and readers in this fandom (to me).
It's really up to you. The fics are only anon until the New Year.
If it bothers you that people might guess who you are, don't include the beta and thank them once the authors are revealed. Or you could say something like "Thanks to my beta who frequently works with me. You know who you are." I know I personally would be okay with that if my name was already mentioned in the author's other fics.
If you're worried about offending your beta, you could always ask them which they would prefer.
Some people may also not be bothered enough to really try to identify their author anyway, or are unlikely to recognize someone based on that. So it's up to you really.
Author's notes will be revealed with the fic though, for anyone wondering about that. Only the author name won't be revealed.
Sorry, man. Didn't mean to come off that way. It's just frustrating. I'm technically bi but like a Kinsey 5 and very fluid so sometimes my attraction to men just shuts off entirely and when that happens fandom spaces can feel very isolating. I don't think people are anti-lesbian or that they need to be forced to write femslash (cos honestly 'eat your vegetables SJ friendly' femslash is the worst) but idk. When I say 'we can do better' it just comes from that feeling of isolation and that frustrated feeling of waking up one morning and oh I guess for right now my fandom space is going to make me feel alienated.
Happily reporting that I wrote my fill in, like, two days pretty quickly after prompts were assigned. 8,000 words, yo. I may have been a little frantic there. But I think it turned out okay. *fingers crossed* It surely fills what was specified in the prompt, now I just gotta hope it's what the requester was looking for.
Rest assured, you are not alone. I could happily watch five hours of Matt recovering on his couch, doing best-friendsy stuff with all this BFFs and lots of cuddling and mother-henning and just him being a sad cinnamon roll.
Okay, thank you. I'm just going off previous Secret Santa's I've done where they took all identifying information out of the fic - so author's notes had beta's names reduced to a letter; things like that.
There are great women in DD, but....do *any* of them *ever* talk to each other?
Claire talks to her boss Shirley, once. Karen is physically present near Marci when *Foggy* talks to her. Madame Gao talks *about* Vanessa to Fisk. I....think that's it.
Oh, Karen talks to Marlene about Fisk and to Doris about Ben. Both of whom are old enough to be her grandmother, only sometimes lucid, and either the mother of her enemy or the widow of the friend Karen feels like she killed. Not a lot of typical ship fodder there.
There aren't any F/F relationships (in the general, non-romantic sense) on screen, any dynamics to dig into. I'm not saying that's a total barrier, fandom can totally ship people who haven't met yet, but compared to dynamics that get a lot of emotional focus in the show to work from? Yeah, of course there's going to be a dearth of fic.
TLDR individually great female characters are necessary but not sufficient. Some canon lady interactions go a long way toward encouraging f/f in fandom. (Hence JJ and Agent Carter fandoms). Hopefully we actually get some in season two.
I've been looking for it, but I can't find it; I read some great meta on how most "heroes recovering" have this Pieta-style pose they do. Matt Murdock? Cuddles up on his couch with his comfy socks.
It's the 8,000 words anon here. And, hey, it's not about how much you write or how quickly you write it. I was just inspired and the words kept flowing. It doesn't always happen, I got lucky. Probably played a role that the prompt was right up my alley -- like super right up my alley.
We all try, and I'm sure it's gonna be a lovely x-mas fic fest with lots of great fills and love and giving. I'm already excited!
Challenge mod here... I just sent an email out to the people who haven't yet submitted, but how's everyone here feeling?
Everyone on track for the 22nd so far? I'm going to extend the deadline again to the evening of the 22nd to give everyone an extra few hours.
If you're defaulting, PLEASE remember to let me know via the previously stated email or do it officially on AO3. I've got some pinch hitters lined up, but they can't do their thing if nobody knows it needs doing.
DA: hosting on tumblr should work - I just tested it with a random image and I've done it before. If you post the image privately then open it in a new tab - so it's that 40.media.tumblr.com address. Use that link in the rich text's 'insert image' option and you should have no problems.
I just had to go through my Secret Santa fic, finding all of the "Nelson & Murdock"s and replacing them with "Nelson and Murdock," instead. I used the phrase a lot more than I had thought. *headdesk*
