You can't take electives in law school?

I think it's cos he's ginger in the comics :') i think it's kinda cute when ppl include it in fics even tho it means I have to adjust my mental image haha

(Anonymous) 2015-06-10 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I just checked the WIP post and it makes me so happy that there's a fic where foggy gets turned into a dog and a fic where a dog gets turned into foggy. Like this kink meme is def doing it right.

I can't wait for that comment freeze/fills fest to come. we've got more prompts than we know what to do with right now XD

Re: Ask about New York thread!

New Yorkers joke about never leaving their general area of the city, but of course Matt occasionally travels elsewhere. IMO it'd be more unrealistic to think that he never takes the train (unless he intentionally avoided it for accessibility reasons).

Me neither! I think it'll be fun

Yeah, that whole scene is just a hot mess. Columbia does have housing for students in its graduate/professional schools, but it's apartments in the neighborhood, not dorms. Not sure what percentage of the law students take advantage of that, but I'd expect the numbers to be much lower for locals.

Law students can petition to cross-register for classes at Columbia's other graduate schools. "Conversational language courses" are specifically excluded from being approved (seeing as they're not graduate-level courses in any event). I'm not sure where that leaves translation/reading language courses, but it's pretty obvious that Matt and Foggy are talking about conversational classes. The debate over "are you taking Spanish or Punjabi" is a very undergrad freshman interaction.

So.....it's a mess.

The comics always showed Matt and Foggy meeting in law school but treated the campus and culture like undergrad, probably because Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did not go to law school (I don't think either of them completed undergrad but I'm not 100% sure). There's a lot of media on campus culture for undergrads, but not so much for grad students, who have a wide range of experiences depending on what school they go to and what they're studying, so from a writing perspective that's probably why their source material was off, and by Waid's day it's too late to change it.

Some graduate students do live in dorms if the university offers it and it's inexpensive, though it's usually singles. I believe Columbia does. I did my graduate work at City College (20 blocks north of Columbia) and there was no graduate housing. I was only on campus for classes and to use the library.

Also, a lot of grad students are working full-time, or part-time. I worked part-time in grad school (for creative writing) and now that I'm in Rabbinical school I'm actually working full-time and taking night classes. A lot of law students take night classes. MBA students are almost always working full-time when they go for their MBA. If you're working, that means you're probably not spending any extra time on campus unless you have a job in that area.

There's also less of a drinking culture, because you're over 21 and you can drink legally, in bars, so a lot of the mystique is gone. And it's a time crunch. Grad school is for professionals (and some people who want to put off being professionals for another few years) and less about tossing frisbee around the college green because your parents are paying for a four-year summer camp.

holy cow... O_O

I don't know who it is that must've just spent their afternoon scowering all 3 prompt posts to update the WIP list, but I salute you!

I know, it's so overwhelming.... x_x

It is super hard to drag me out of my borough (Manhattan). People ask me to visit them in Brooklyn and I'm like, "WHAT? CRAZY TALK."

The courts in Manhattan are near City Hall, in the financial district. I did jury duty there. They also film all of the Law and Orders there on like, the same week. When the courts are closed (usually in the summer), they get a period of time for shooting, so they film every court scene they're going to need for every franchise in the next year because the steps are available. So they'll have Ice Cube or whoever do a scene with the DA, go back to their trailers, change into winter clothes, go out and do another scene, over and over.

To get to a courthouse from Hell's Kitchen you would take the 1 train at 50th and Broadway and get off at Franklin or Chambers Street, or you could take a bus, like the M20 or the M13. That's what Matt would probably do. It would be annoyingly slow but it would be more handicapped-friendly.

For real omg. I just realised that someone started filling one of my prompts a couple of weeks ago because of that and I had no idea!

Thanks anon <3

The hero this kinkmeme deserves...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
OH MAN I made a floorplan and everything of this, lemme see if I can find it. (Seriously, I made one just based on the trailers, and then I had to edit it when the series came out, and I'm not sure where it's at. Give me a bit to look for it.)

His hair looked more ginger-y as a kid, to me. I like to think he's a secret ginger and he started dying it when he got older (maybe because kids at the orphanage bullied him about not having a soul, idk).

Really? I've always thought of ginger hair as being carrot orange, like the Weaeys.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Word. I don't know about all y'all, but I'm starting to get prompt fatigue. We've probably got upwards of 7000+ prompts by now and only a couple hundred fills. And now they're prompting crack fic from a random generator? *shakes head*

Are RPFs always allowed in Kinkmemes?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
...because I know, I know, everyone has their own thing, I should respect that, but I'm not so cool with it.

Re: Are RPFs always allowed in Kinkmemes?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Then maybe don't read or respond to RPF prompts and focus on the prompts you ARE cool with instead? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(but seriously though, i've seen it before in other kinkmemes. if i have to deal with seeing prompts about child molestation then i think you can deal with rpf. rule number 1, and so on)

Re: Are RPFs always allowed in Kinkmemes?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Generally yes and I've seen other kinkmemes have a separate place for them. I get you though. The sexual RPF ones squick me out, but if you just scroll past them, you should be fine. There's not too much of it on this meme anyway.

Re: Matt's hair colour ≠ ginger

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
i think specifically ginger is usually meant for people with carrot orange coloured hair but it's inevitable and true that any person with any shade of red hair will be/is called a ginger. basically born a read-head (regardless of shade) = called a ginger i think it's just an easier blanket-term since basically every red-head has a different name for their colour (how many times have you heard someone say "it's not red- it's strawberry-blonde!!) (this is mostly because ginger usually has negative connotations)

a pointless but fun fact
a couple years back the term "ranga" (as in orangutang) got popular in australia as a term for red-heads. didn't matter what shade (even though it was intended for carrot orange coloured hair) every person with red hair was called a ranga. it's not really used anymore though.

The Punisher in season 2

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
So everyone knows they cast the guy who's gonna play the Punisher in season 2, right?

I've never seen any of the guy's work, but the general response seems to be pretty positive. And I have to say I like the look of him.

Thoughts?

Clearly you've never stumbled across any Supernatural RPF kinkmemes. That pretty much sets the standard as far as disturbing content goes, in my experience.

The worst of the stuff on here still falls short by several orders of magnitude. ;)
