Well, presumably you started writing it because something about the prompt made you excited? What part of it grabbed your imagination? What part were you most looking forward to writing? If someone else was writing the prompt, what do you think they'd be looking forward to reading?
I figured people might want to play along with this thread. What are you hoping to see from Neflix Daredevil either in season 2 or onward? What storylines from the comics would you like adapted? What characters would you like to see fleshed out?
My picks: -I want Bullseye so bad. He's such a weird little fucker. I love him so much. He's just so unabashedly, cartoonishly, scarily evil. I love watching Matt hit his horrible face lol -Adaptation of Born Again. This is the storyline I want the most of anything honestly. I think the Netflix adaptation could nicely refine its rough edges and I want to see Matt completely out of his mind more than most things. -I want Claire to become like the official Night Nurse like as a job so we get to hang out with her all the time :D -I want Typhoid Mary to have a plot because I luff her. Another occasion where we find someone beating the shit out of Matt, hurray!
Hey, during the next freeze, could we have something like an Abandoned Fills Fest? Like, maybe encourage people to revisit their favorite fills that have petered out and leave nice comments? Which could maybe nudge some authors with inspiration?
Not to knock you idea anon, because I think it's really sweet, but honestly I doubt if any of those authors would notice new comments left on stories they've abandoned on a kinkmeme.
Speaking for myself, I don't check fills I've posted here for comments past the first week.
You know what might be a better idea, based on the other comment on this about how people who abandoned fics wouldn't be around to see that there's a challenge...
What about something like a "Continue an abandoned fill" type of challenge? Where people are encouraged to review abandoned fills and see if there's any they would like to reach out to the author about or attempt to pick and up and continue?
I've been the one running the couple of challenges, so it might be something maybe better suited for the New Year, once the Secret Santa challenge is done... but we could always open up a post on the Challenges post here and call it Abandoned Fills and just start having people post the ones they'd like to see continued, just to remind people they exist and there are people who loved them?
So I have nerve damage in my hands and writing is a fucker. Predictive text is a lifesaver, but still a pain.. What apps/programs/etc help you write?predictive text? Dictation app that doesnt throw a fit if you pause to think for more than .3 seconds? Sheer willpower given by writtenkitten? What are your secrets?
If something like this is implemented we'd need to have a set of guidelines or something for how to continue the fill and how best to reach out to the anon authors.
Because I know i have a couple of fills which I've left for a bit and probably look like they've been abandoned, but I wouldn't want them part of the challenge because I want to continue them.
Maybe some sort of post where people can list the prompts/fills they want opted out of the challenge, so then no one can touch them?
I would LOVE to see a Netflix version of Born Again. I can't really get myself into comics but the storyline sounds exactly like something I'd love. Just imagine all the sad suffering Matt. All of it.
Dream of dreams would be if they make a Night Nurse series and it's also where all the Defenders finally cross over. Because Claire's already going to be in all of their shows, so why not? Plus, superhero-themed medical drama. That would be awesome.
Possible spoilers: From the screenshots of the S2 teaser trailer, it seems like they're doing that comic plot where the Punisher chains Matt up and duct tapes him to a gun. That makes me a very happy person.
1. Ask the author if it's okay for you to continue their story. Wait a week before doing anything else. Check to see if they've replied. If they say yes, great! Continue to step two. If they say no, do not continue to step two. If they don't reply (which is the most likely option, if it is really abandoned), continue to step two.
2. Make a new prompt, (briefly) encompassing the original prompt and the story so far. You can link to the prompt/fill to make it 100% clear what your inspiration is. Post your continuation of the fill in response to this prompt, so it's as clear as possible that you are not the same author.
so, if I'm afk for a couple of weeks, I might come back and find someone has started a continuation of my story? I'm... not sure how I feel about that, but it isn't great.
I'm really interested, but I would like to know what the policy is if something comes up and someone has to default? Not that I would be planning to, but you know how life can be :)
If someone defaults, that's not entirely unexpected in these types of challenges. I do have a few pinch hitters (myself included) who have volunteered to write multiple fills in case of default to ensure nobody misses out.
Maybe we set a limit of abandoned for a month or more on fics people can re-post or prompt for a continuation of there, and make it a requirement as outlined elsewhere that you must make a good faith attempt to contact the author before you continue it?
Yeah, that would suck. Could a buffer maybe help here? Prompts from the latest prompt post can't be considered abandoned until that post is closed and has gone through a freeze OR, in the case of fills that started in a freeze, it's been over a month since there's been any kind of update from the author. (a brief, 'hey this is still on my radar', would count, wouldn't have to be a story update.)
though honestly, i'm much more in favor of figuring out a way to encourage the original authors to continue again. i don't want to do something that will leave a bad taste in people's mouths, for whatever reason.
