Defenders Prompt Post #1
Fills from all posts: Completed & WIPs
Defenders-only Discussion Post
This post is for prompts involving everyone in Netflix's The Defenders! Crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go here. Prompts only including characters from one show should still go on the relevant show prompt post.
Rules:
- General
- YKINMKATO. Play nice. If you don't like something, scroll on.
- All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.
- Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).
- RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2017 TV show in some way.
- Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.
- Prompts
- All types of prompts are welcome.
- Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).
- Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.
- Fills
- Put [FILL] or something similar in the subject line when posting a fill.
- Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.
- Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.
- Multiple fills are always okay.
- Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)Some questions:
So as far as medical treatment goes. It's pretty impossible for him to survive this without actual medical intervention, not something that Claire does in her apartment, and certainly not what Stick did. (He would have bled out already or be close to death from an infection, honestly man.) What are your preferences as far as that goes? I ask because if he was hospitalized for any period of time, Foggy would probably found out and make it difficult for him to keep it from them.
Also, what about the immense amount of DNA evidence that would be involved in this?
Additionally, how would Matt manage to keep this separate from his Daredevilling (aka- two men in Hell's Kitchen losing a limb at the same time is highly suspect, even if one of those men is blind and the other is a vigilante.)
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)Well, I'm excited, alright let me grab my medical books.
Amputating, oh yeah, I completely see what you mean about it being impossible and too much shock on his system. Originally I REALLY wanted him to lose a foot, but it could be lessened, so he loses only half his foot or the front end gets chopped off (which would bleed like crazy, but not in the speed of an arterial chop).
We could go the cauterize route, but I don't really want to since that leads to an insane amount of shock and likely would kill him anyways.
Matt could be held hostage and they take his foot from him? Or a hand? How he loses it is up to the writer but medical attention is required for anything that severe.
The biological evidence, well, he could just set the entire place on fire. Anything people think is best!
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)I was thinking Melvin could make a prosthetic that essentially looks identical to his outfit usually so it looks like he still has his leg while daredeviling! (Plus it would make one of his kicks a whole heck harder.)
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)Since we're talking realism here anyway, I thought I'd drop in and say that fighting with a prosthetic would actually be pretty harsh on your body, even if it gave you more strength (which I can't really see happening).
A. With a prosthetic, your strength still comes from your body. This seems to be the best we have right now in that department:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qUPnnROxvY
It's really, really good, but when you want to punch with it, you still need to employ your actual body to give it momentum. Same goes for kicking, and you would need more body strength to move a heavy chunk of metal than you would your own leg.
Getting hit by something metal probably hurts more than getting hit by flesh, but Matt is not hitting anyone with flesh; he's hitting with a thick layer of dense protective gear, so the change would probably be minimal in that department, especially if Melvin makes the limb to blend in with the rest of the costume.
B. When you hit with a prosthetic, it will jumble against your flesh. It's not part of you, and the action-reaction law that Newton established is not on your side. Just try to attach something solid to your hand and then slam it into a punching bag; it hurts A LOT more than just hitting the bag with your own hand.
This effect would make his kicks/punches much weaker, because even Daredevil can't take repeated damage to the exact same piece of his body over and over again for very long.
And even with weaker punches, it could still cause serious injury to where the prosthetic and the limb meet, all the way to possibly loosing more flesh or even life endangerment from blood clots or something. People get seriously hurt over much smaller things that repeatedly slamming your prosthetic into your limb on days on end.

Sorry if I rained on your parade :] Feel free to ignore science like any proper comic book author would ;)
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 02:06 am (UTC)(link)That's a super fucking cool robot arm, but I think a bit different from what Matt would have? It's more along the lines of sport prosthetics, which are well adapted for shock absorption. (Think the blade runner guy.)
Like, I have no doubt that fighting crime with a prosthetic can be damaging, but Misty Knight's gonna have a super cool robot arm, and Bucky already has one (which is probably super invasive and painful, but effective), and prosthetic legs are actually much further along technologically than arms are.
And let's be truthful, this is Matt we're talking about here. Self flagellation is kind of his wheelhouse.
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)There could be some real science and some comic-book science mixed up.
Matt could lose a limb in a self-sacrificing manner as it has been suggested, and then probably somebody provides him with medical assistance unofficially and agrees to keep it secret. Some private clinic? Somebody who feels indebted to Daredevil? Maybe it is actually the people he has saved!
Suppose, the experimental prosthetic is really good, so parkour and fighting are still possible. Although it could be difficult and painful, Matt pulls through. Being Daredevil is too important to him, he just can't stop, hence he adapts and compensates, so that his handicap is not obvious.
I think that one of the reasons why he doesn't want to tell anyone is because he subconsciously tries to avoid recognizing the severity of his injury. Like 'as long as I don't speak about it, it is not a problem, and nobody needs to know'. And maybe he believes that nobody should care.
Speaking of Foggy's reaction... I would really like it to be something like this. Matt expects that Foggy will be upset about daredeviling, that he will get angry, they will fight again, and he is absolutely shocked when Foggy finally finds out and shows compassion first thing. (Like 'OMG buddy – how – I'm so sorry – are you OK' and some bear hugs, because being a good friend Foggy has no alternative but to come to terms with Matt's issues in the end.)
Sorry if my thoughts don't entirely correspond with the original prompt, I've got carried away!..
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)I'm really liking your ideas. I have already started with the writing.
I've got it so he is hospitalized, cause that's really not something you want to fuck around with. But he's definitely going to want to get out and go back to normal asap.
In the one I'm writing, Foggy finds out pretty soon, but doesn't find out that it was a 127 hours scenario until later on, and that's what really hits him.
I do plan to have Matt hiding it from Defenders though. Like 'yeah I hurt my leg so it'll be weird for a bit but everything's fine don't ask again'.
And then eventually they find out and Luke is like, Misty has a cool arm, you should be friends, and Danny devotes so much money to it and Jessica just shrugs and is like eh.
If Matt has proven anything, it's that he's great at adapting to super shitty scenarios.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)I've got all sorts of medical interests and knowledge, so I got your back.
I'm thinking leg as well, but if it's more of a crush injury, there is less chance of bleeding out.
I'm also thinking that it happens as Matt, doing something Daredevily but not while in the suit. Then the biological evidence doesn't matter, although he will have to come up with one hell of an excuse for why he was doing something conceivably dangerous or in some sort of weird place. (I'm thinking car accident, but still unsure of details surrounding, so if you've got any ideas, let me know.)
Re: Amputee Matt
(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)Oooo, car crash would be cool. Although if it's a crush injury, it would need uniform pressure all over or the fragment pieces would result in breaking through his skin and significant blood loss, like if you smash half an apple the skin splits and juice everywhere. But if you crush the entire apple all at once, it just gets pancaked with less blood (hard to explain but I'm almost positive on the science and medical stuff behind it, I'd be happy to pull up examples.)
So...a building falls on him? Crushes his foot beyond repair? It's smashed between two cars? It's smashed with a sludge hammer? Who knows!!!

(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)That story is kinda already on AO3. I was actually wondering if you knew it, it's definitely right up your alley.
