It goes like this. Post season 2. Matt and Foggy are slowly starting to reconcile. They are on speaking terms, but Foggy can't forgive Matt for walking away from him and Karen, especially since he believes he's still going out with Electra. Matt listens to his rant about how toxic their relationship is, then says he's right, Matt should leave her and try to forget. Then he asks Foggy to go with him when he'll go see her next as moral support. Foggy is so happy Matt is listening to him, he doesn't even notice how white his face is.

The day comes, Matt meets up with Foggy and they go. Matt doesn't speak, Foggy thinks he just needs to gather his courage. The they walk into the graveyard... and he gets it.

Matt didn't lie - he needs Foggy close as he finally let's Electra go, once and for all. There are some sweet goodbyes and confessions... then he says, that he has to leave her, since he decided to stay. Because he has a few very special people who he loves, and he can't hurt them like that, no matter how much she meant to him.
