Not a New Yorker so no idea about the geography, but if you're looking for somewhere suitably isolated, it looks like there are some state parks in under a three-hour drive (according to Google Maps). Having gone on three- and five-hour trips for this kind of thing, I would say they would have to be going somewhere pretty appealing to justify a four-hour drive. (Awesome lake? The traditional Nelson family campground?) Obviously it depends on your tolerance for long drives, but I wouldn't think city boy Matt would be able to handle a whole lot, haha. (Would the drive itself be hell for him, especially if they start heading up into the mountains? What does Matt think about winding roads?)
