I think that it would be funnier if they made the commercial themselves intending it to air on public access or something.
Or if they WANTED to make a commercial, but then it turns out that they're all really awkward on camera, can't act or that there's something really wrong with it.
Like imagine Foggy fretting about the idea that the camera adds 10 pounds even though he's normally not weight-conscious at all, or showing up to the suit in a really ridiculous tie that he refuses to take off, or Matt suggesting ideas that are visually the worst thing but nobody wants to tell him that, or Karen having terrible nerves and whispering all her lines.
I'm just picturing Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock shooting his GE promo and holding two mugs being like "Shouldn't I be doing something with my hands?" or otherwise being the most awkward human ever, and thinking that it could be applied here.
