Community Vote: Defenders Kink Meme?

So, we probably all know that Jessica Jones will be released next month (have you seen the trailer? GO WATCH THE TRAILER). She will eventually be followed by Luke Cage and Danny Rand, and one day we will have the entire Defenders ensemble to write tragic fic about.

My question is, do we want this place to become the Defenders Kink Meme, or stay as the Daredevil(-with inevitable crossovers with his teammates but still focused on the Hell's Kitchen crew-)Kink Meme?

I expected more debate, but getting a simple yes or no would work for me!
Welp, thanks to the blatant vote rigging that's now completely useless. It was at about 60:40 in favour of becoming the Defenders meme when I last saw it, but that's not definite enough for me to make a decision.

Here's some of the things I'm considering. Please chime in with your thoughts on any of it or anything else you're thinking of!:

• Is there anyone else thinking of setting up a Jessica Jones or Defenders Kink Meme? Because if so, there's less point in us changing anything. Specification can be a good thing!


• This meme isn't as hectic as it once was, but it's still pretty active. Do we want the extra canon to work with, or do you like the speed everything is now?


• If we do become the Defenders Kink Meme I probably won't change the web address from daredevilkink.dreamwidth.org, unless someone has a rename token they want to donate. (Either way, I'll nab a defenders kink username and set it to redirect here, so anyone looking for it will find us.)


• Once Jessica Jones drops all in one go, there's no way everyone's going to see it at the same pace (or at all). If we're actively including Jessica Jones as part of the canon we write about, how do we deal with keeping those who want to squee and prompt things based on the new show separate from those who want to remain spoiler-free until they've seen it all?
  
  • Option one: We don't. It's a free for all. Visit DDKM at your own risk until you've seen the show, or accept that you're gonna get spoiled to hell.
    
  • Option two: Insist on any Jessica Jones-related prompt having SPOILERS in the subject line. It would rely on people being observant enough to scroll past what they don't want to see, and everyone following the rule, and me being around to quickly screen any comments that don't. Which, eh.
    
  • Option three: Have an entirely separate prompt post for Jessica Jones-inspired prompts for, idk, a month?
  I'd like whatever we choose (if we do make this a Defenders kink meme) to set the precedent for what we do when season 2 of Daredevil becomes available, so maybe keep that in mind when deciding.

There's a thread on the Discussion Post that has been talking about this, but I want to get everyone's opinions before deciding on anything. I'm happy either way, but I run this place for you guys so I want to do the thing that works best for most people!




ETA: So, this is clearly a divisive issue. My current plan is that we change nothing, we remain for all intents and purposes as the Daredevil Kink Meme, but we still have a new separate prompt post up for anything that involves Jessica Jones. The usual prompt posts can tick on happily and everyone who wants to talk/prompt about Jessica et al has somewhere to go. Thoughts on that?

If we become the Defenders Kink Meme, each Defender should have their own separate prompt posts.

I like option 3. I don't think the prompt posts need to stay separate for longer than maybe one full round (like, for exampe we could have a round 8a and 8b when this one closes) but once the round reaches the limit of 4000 on either post, they both should close and a new integrated round should open.

I only say that because I feel like keeping them separate either forces people to post crossovers to both or us to have an additional post for crossovers and that just seems too complicated.

Also, the other two comments didn't state it but obviously I am pro becoming a Defenders meme! A new Defenders meme wouldn't then have all the previous Daredevil stuff from here archived there and this meme may not be as active if new fans coming to Daredevil prefer there to here. Yay to Defenders!

I like option 1. It will cause less confusion about where crossovers should be prompted (option 3), and I'd be annoyed if prompts devolved into arguing about what counts as a spoiler or not (option 2).

That said, I would still prefer not to make this meme officially about the Defenders as a whole. But it seems I'm outvoted on that, so whatever.

I'm definitely for becoming a defenders meme; if only because I'm lazy and like all my fic in one place.

Also I think option three sounds like the best idea, with a stipulation that all crossovers involving spoilers are posted in the Jessica Jones post. Or just all crossovers with it (the show specifically) in general to avoid confusion and let those people who don't have the time to marathon it, catch up.

option three sounds a little like the best of both worlds!! it all stays in one place, with an established user-base + relatively peaceful atmosphere (thanks to the all-powerful, all-wonderful mod) but it won't alienate the users who are here solely for daredevil. separate posts for the separate shows makes it a breeze to find what you're looking for. for jessica jones-centric go here, for daredevil-centric go here.

crossovers are a grey area in terms of organisation and it's never going to be easy to definitively rule on where a prompt should live so maybe: a post for dd, a post for jj (posts for the others when the time comes) and a xover/defenders post for prompts that can't be classed as one particular character-centric.

but in saying that i have no idea how dreamwidth works and all of that might be too much work, i'm not sure just thought i'd float the idea :-)

same anon as above here: with the crossover/defenders post i mean that generally with crossovers (especially when it only concerns two different series i.E JJ and DD) you'd be able to classify them as more DD-centric or more JJ-centric, so you'd be able to post your prompt on the relevant post, with the stipulation that you include "CROSSOVER" in the header. for posts that are very equal in terms of the crossover those would go on the crossover/defenders post.

spoiler warnings in the header would be nice, but it's impossible to avoid spoilers in any internet setting but especially a site like this with no blocking features. it's just the nature of the beast really.

I really would like a Defenders kink meme and think that it would be good for us as a community to have a set place to be together. I think option three is great with the caveat that it can also be a trial period to see if two simultaneous prompt posts can sustain themselves and then if they can and there is little confusion we can just keep them separate for now. That way we can also see by the time Luke Cage comes around what might be good protocol then. Personally I think that it might be nearly impossible to separate a Jessica Jones and a Luke Cage prompt post from each other - thinking towards the future, I think they should be in the same prompt post from the get go. He is already set to be integral in her show from all the reviews and interviews I have read and watched thus far. But until Daredevil season 2 premieres, it will be unclear if it is appropriate yet to blend Daredevil and Jessica Jones/Luke Cage kink meme with each other. They seem to be very different shows that aren't intersecting yet like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are. But there is no reason this couldn't change in the future.

Imo it should become the Defenders kinkmeme. The new shows will bring new interested users for whom Daredevil might even be a secondary obsession. By turning into a Defenders one we'd ensure that the kinkmeme doesn't just die out.

I think it's better to have separate prompts for Jessica Jones and the rest of the The Defenders once each show comes out and then the fills either COMPLETE OR WIP will be posted in the same sections only that there is gonna be a subtitle or somethign that indicates that it's a fill for teh the JJ or any of the otehr shows Tags.

Something like.

-Main Title-- JJ Fill.

I dunno if ti can work that way but i think it's an option.

I'd prefer this stay Daredevil-only because I'm not sure I'm even going to watch all the shows that will eventually comprise The Defenders, and I'm here for Daredevil fic. I mean, I'm probably going to watch Jessica Jones, but I probably won't watch the Punisher (he's getting his own show, right?). That said, if this became the Defenders Kinkmeme with different pages for each show and one for cross-overs, I'd be cool with that.

I second the proposal that Fills and WIPs all go to the same page but have sub-headers for their series, seems like that'd be tidiest.

I already have the tumblr url, " DaredevilKinkMeme" saved. I've helped run a kink meme-ish thing for Glee ( before I was locked out). I'll help anyone rebuild a DD kink meme if this goes to defenders hell.

I'd very much prefer to stay DD only, but option three seems a really good compromise. I already know I'm not going to watch the other shows and I'd find it really frustrating to have one post and have it flooded with so many prompts I don't care about.

I really don't think crossovers will be a big deal in practice either. If it's mainly one show, put it there but if it's equal parts both just pick one or flip a coin.

SA- Actually, if option three is chosen, my first part is kinda selfish now I think on it lol.

I'm VERY against mixing it all and going straight Defenders meme (to the point I'm honestly not sure if I'd hang around) but if we have separate posts it can basically stay a DD-only meme for anyone who wants it (or a JJ-only meme). Not that hard NOT to click on a post :P

I like option 3. I'd even go so far as to say we keep the posts separate permanently (or at least up until the Defenders show actually cross over in like, 3-4 years' time). We have a separate post for the comics prompts, after all. The only issue is that there might be too many posts for the mod to keep up with, so I suppose the final decision still lies with them.

Anyway, here is my point of view. I'm on this meme only for Daredevil. I have no interest in the rest of the Defenders, or the rest of the MCU for that matter. I'm more than happy for fans of the other Defenders to have their own space, whether here or on another meme, but I really love having a Daredevil-focused place and I'd hate to lose that.

I'm also kind of confused at all this wanting to convert completely into a Defenders meme RIGHT THIS SECOND, because, as far as I can tell, we have just two shows right now (technically still only one until Nov 20) and they are basically completely separate. I understand wanting to plan ahead, but guys, this is like organising an Avengers Kink Meme when Thor hasn't even premiered yet.

I haven't read all the other comments here and have not been involved in the drama, but my opinion is:

- I like having a focused place for just Daredevil
- unlike the MCU movieverse, TV has a lot more hours dedicated to each individual canon that makes it easier to be a fan of one series without having to see everything
- if the focused place for Daredevil is a particular prompt post as opposed to an entire meme that's fine with me

tl;dr if the meme becomes a Defenders meme, I would prefer each series to have its own prompt post and maybe one crossover prompts post so that people can focus where they want.

We have one main prompt post that's every show and every prompt. This will ebb and flow in some interesting new ways that I'm really excited to see. But we also have separate prompt posts for each show that move a little slower.

I really like this idea because I feel like not separating prompt posts is important because I want this kinkmeme to feel like a weird community instead of lots of little communities that all happen to be related. And I definitely already feel that the discussions page is a separate thing from the main prompt page so having lots of prompt pages seems even worse.

But I also don't like how focused on Matt/Foggy all the current prompts are, which is why I don't currently bother to keep up with it. And if that ship and the show are going to remain as popular as they are (which is still pretty impressive, considering how long ago the show came out) than I want to be able to view prompts without that focus and that juggernaut ship. In general having a main and lots of separate prompt posts will make it so that people who can keep up with whatever pace the main prompt posts moves at can follow it. But people who get overwhelmed by it can pull back into the prompt post for the show or shows they are most interested in and no longer have to scroll through comments that aren't interesting to them.

But this also seems really confusing, huh? I just wanted to put it out there and see if it's a possibility. I think discussions would happen not on the main thread just to keep it short and like a summary. I don't know if there's an easy way to not allow replies to comments? And I also don't know if it's possible to have some code or something that says, "If someone comments on x also post that comment in y without making a new link" or if that's not a thing. Other wise it would rely on people posting the same thing in two places which could get screwy.

But with all the DD,JJ prompts all in one will be a little hectic. A new propmt section for each new show it's a good idea.
The other thing is that every fill either WIP or COMPLETED will go in the same sections as regular but with a subtitle that indicates that it's a fill for JJ or crossover or whatever new show is on. That way if anyoen it's ineterest on the story they can read it if the have not been on the JJ or the n ew show tag.

The discussion page is a separate thing. If we have the discussion topic on the same page as the prompts then it will be crazy to follow any new subject that comes up. There are countless of propnts already lost out there and some are really good ones.

Would there be separate prompt posts for the separate shows? Like, add one (or more) for JJ, one for Luke Cage, one for Iron First, and one for all of them combined? Wouldn't that clutter the kinkmeme too much?

Or would there be Dd, and then just one prompt post for all the other Defenders shows combined? That kinda implies that the non-Dd shows or fandoms aren't important enough to get their own prompt posts (and the popularity and activity level is hard to predict because the shows haven't even aired yet).

I'm a little torn, and while it's commendable to bring the topic up before the fact, it feels like it's really too early to make that decision...

That said, I'm really looking forward to JJ airing next month, and I'm sure there's gonna be tons of Dd/JJ crossover or fusion fics. Which can potentially be a good thing. :-)

Honestly, it's too early to say. We don't know anything about how these other TV shows will play out yet, particularly in relation to each other. I assume JJ and Luke Cage will be too closely linked to separate into two posts though. No idea about Iron Fist.

Personally I would like it if there was DD and then the other Defenders (e.g. JJ + LC). That's not to say the non-DD shows are "less important", but that, well, this is a Daredevil kink meme. But like I said, who knows. Maybe one day it'll only make sense to have Daredevil with the other prompts because there's just too much canon crossover. But I'd prefer to keep them separate for the time being, since they are separate right now.
