I tried to keep the story verrrry show/comic-agnostic--the only specific references to *either* canon are specific items of knitwear (and I guess Marci, but she doesn't specifically contradict comics canon, so). Matt doesn't really have any age markers in the bulk of it, there's no specific indication of when his dad died, &c. I came to the show via the comics and love both fiercely, so the more I can straddle 'em, the happier I am. (And BOY did that come out wrong. But you get what I mean.)
Knitting is actually used for OT, particularly for anxiety , sensory integration, and fine motor rehab (IIRC?)! And Matt's enhanced senses post-accident, would probably read to most professionals as sensory integration issues, so...
